+1 to the labels thing. I'm fluid and it's been .. interesting so I do "get it" to some degree. It's a touchy subject but a good conversation. Not the thread for it though lol ... but I do think they may be searching for a new HW. Mal just won't be able to do both.

I think Kay was there more to guide than to contribute.  Aside from Janice Ferri Esser and Natalie Minardi Slater, Y&R's writing staff consists of people who don't have an association with the show that reaches back decades.  Ergo, Sally might have brought her on to help train them (more or less) in the "Bell style" or a close approximation thereof while she concentrated on determining and laying out current story.

 

Of course, when you're dealing with a HW who either has no real plans for a show, or whose plans are so lackluster that they fail to generate suspense on a daily basis, there's only so much that a story consultant who isn't actually responsible for writing the show can do.
