All My Children

When little Philip required surgery after his fall, Phil was happy to donate blood after learning his namesake had the same rare B- blood he had. Phil began to put the pieces together. Little Phil survived the splenectomy but while his condition was critical, Phil noticed how close Tara and Chuck were. When Kate told Phil that little Philip was born on December 21st 1972, he admitted to himself he knew it all the time. He asked Ruth if little Philip was his son. In agony, she told him that he was. Phil and Ruth discussed the baby’s security and Phil proclaimed he’d never claim the child. Chuck and Tara were frightened that Phil might understand the truth because of the blood type but Phil concealed what he had learned. Little Philip recovered and was released. Meanwhile, Erica was at Oakhaven and was undergoing shock treatment as she had shown no improvement at all.

Phoebe was shocked to realize that Charles and Mona got closer during her cruise. She was aghast to learn Mona had Christmas dinner at the Tylers. Ann cautioned her mother that her jealousy could drive Charles to Mona and when she tried to warn Charles that Phoebe was out for Mona’s blood, Charles angrily replied that Mona’s friendship was his most precious possession. Phoebe finally landed the ultimatum – either fire Mona or they could no longer live under the same roof. Accidentally learning of Phoebe’s ultimatum, Mona informed Phoebe that she was resigning to make Charles’ life easier. Upon learning what Mona did, Charles admitted to her that his feelings deepened beyond friendship.

Lincoln told Kitty he had fallen in love with her. She replied that she enjoyed his company but hadn’t thought beyond that. Meanwhile, Ann moved into her own apartment because of Phoebe’s constant interference.

Paul was annoyed at the way Claudette didn’t lift a finger to help around. Margo was dead set against her daughter throwing away the Montgomery money and social position. Claudette noticed the scar behind Margo’s ear and guessed about her facelift. Margo admitted but said Paul was not to know. However, when Paul refused to be Claudette’s lawyer in her divorce, Claudette told Margo to convince Paul or he would learn about the facelift. Margo asked Paul to help Claudette and admitted that last summer she lied about visiting her daughter but went to New York to think things over. She only understood now that the marriage had to be ended. She then told Claudette Paul knew she had a facelift instead of visiting her and hoped they would never compare notes on this.

While working on the child-abuse program at the hospital, Ann ran into an old friend Stacy Coles who brought her two-year-old son Jamie in for treatment after a tricycle accident. Ann was convinced the child was a victim of child abuse. Joe was skeptical until Jamie’s X-rays showed previous fractures. He visited the Coles and asked to check Jamie but Stacy refused but her husband Wyatt, upset that every time he was away on business Jamie had another accident, agreed to discuss it with Joe. Stacy and Wyatt agreed about his heavy work schedule which she pointed out didn’t provide for her the way her wealthy father used to.

Another World

Dave was amazed when Carol turned ice cold toward him upon learning he had agreed to be Mac’s best man. Carol was hoping Robert would reconsider Mac’s offer. Lenore was well aware that Carol’s interest in Robert was more that friendship and admitted to Pat she was also jealous of Carol’s independence. Lenore discovered that Carol was keeping clothes in the office and spent night there. Robert made sure Carol removed them. When Vic suggested Lenore work at home for Frame Enterprises, she eagerly accepted but Robert was furious to learn he was not being consulted. However, Steve made Robert see that Lenore needed more than housework. Lenore decided to give it up finally for Robert’s peace of mind.

Rachel discovered the lovely tudor Clayton Estate was for sale, a house she passed on her way to school. After Jamie adored the house, Mac insisted they were buying it. Meanwhile, Iris, had brought Phillip Wainwright to Bay City. Having dissipated the Wainwright fortune, Phillip was working at compromising young women who were trying to marry into rich families. Iris bought a partnership at the Springview riding Academy but announced that Phillip was the new owner. He pressed Rachel to let him teach her to ride as a surprise for Mac and Iris and Louise made plans to take compromising pictures of Rachel while she was out with Phillip.

Ada convinced Mac to suggest to Rachel that they marry in New York but Rachel could care less about others’ attitudes. Mac impulsively asked Rachel to marry him this weekend at his New York townhouse. As Dave was about to leave for New York City, he had to cancel because of a medical emergency. Carol called Robert and told him there was a business emergency and he had to fly to New York. Once there, Carol told him he had to be Mac’s best man. Rachel and Marc were married in a private ceremony and Mac gave Rachel a beautiful mink coat at a Valentine’s day gift. Ironically, Phillis, Iris and Louise learned of the wedding while waiting for Rachel to arrive for her riding lesson. Iris was near hysteria and insisted to Phillip that marriages can be broken too. At John’s office, Iris overheard that Mac’s will was being revised making Rachel chief beneficiary. Both she and Liz were sure Rachel was responsible. Iris and Phillip stole a copy of Mac’s will. John confronted Iris but she denied taking it. Mac was furious when he found Iris had a copy of the will. He assured Rachel didn’t know of the changes.

Not knowing how to explain it to Lenore, Robert said nothing about the wedding but Carol sent him a clock with a note “To The Best Man.” Robert tried to tell Lenore he had no choice but Lenore blamed Carol. She later told Pat she was sorry she had been so hard on Robert but he kept defending Carol and Robert admitted he was tricked by Carol into being Mac’ best men. Meanwhile, Carol asked Gil about Walter Curtin’s death and even questioned young Wally. Lenore was furious and ordered Carol to say out of her life. Lenore asked Robert a job in his office explaining she would be feeling useful. Robert suggested a baby could make her feel better. Carol kept collecting information on Walter’s death and Dave told her they were through. Since Vic’s feelings for Lenore were obvious, Barbara told Lenore she could not have a relationship with Vic but Lenore insisted the feelings were not reciprocal.

Angela Perrini, the daughter of the McGowens’ neighbors, returned home after being laid off from a car plant in Odgen. With Ada’s help, she was hired to replace Lenore in Steve’s office. She met Steven’s younger brother Willis and they seemed to hit it off quite well.

Marianne Randolph was going through a difficult teenage period. She felt her parents didn’t trust her and found fault with everything Pat said. At Pat’s suggestion, Marianne spent time with Alice and her grandparents Jim and Mary.

As The World Turns

John chaffed at Bob that nobody except Kim visited him. Susan, who decided to stay in Oakdale, encouraged John to curry Kim’ sympathy as the only way to keep her. Kim told Jennifer that she was having trouble accepting her promise to stick with John. Noticing the attraction between Kim and Dan, John used every opportunity to needle Dan about finding a woman. In front of Ellen, Kim asked Dan how long John’s recovery would take and Ellen noticed the attraction too as Dan tried to comfort Kim. Betsy asked Kim to attend an open-house at school because Dan couldn’t. When Betsy told Dan Kim would attend, he said he would try to be there. David told Dan he noticed a new vibrancy in him but Dan declined to comment. Meanwhile, John kept talking about the future and Kim had to remain him of their agreement.

Tom told Lisa he thought Carol was a wonderful girl and was glad she had Jay in her life even if he didn’t like him. Tom was also growing closer to Natalie. Her medical tests showed a liver dysfunction and Bob wanted to being treatment but she refused and made him promise not to tell anyone. Carol received notice of the date of their divorce gearing and went to see Chris to ask if it was too late to call of the divorce. He answered it was not. Jay tried to cement his relationship with Carol but she said there was only friendship between them. Carol arranged to have Tom for dinner and he said divorce was a good thing for them both. After he left, she broke down in tears. Carol tried to quit her job but Lisa refused. Tom decided to move in with his grandparents to help assuage their feelings about the divorce. Natalie had another “attack” and allowed Bob to begin treatment secretly. Carol told Jay that her marriage was over and accepted Jay’s invitation to dinner.

When David went to see Joyce about a missing report, she insisted it was with the tests she sent him. She finally found it and David told her one little mistake wasn’t fatal but Joyce went to pieces. She had gotten sleeping pills from Bob to help her over her nightmares and Bob and Grant tried to get her to see a psychiatrist about the guilt over the accident. After talking with Susan, Joyce decided she didn’t need a specialist and when to see Grant but Lisa opened the door. Joyce was devastated that Grant and Lisa had reconciled. When Joyce didn’t show up at work, David started a search for her. Grant received a call from the police that Joyce was there. She made a confession that she deliberately killed the man last October explaining she knew him after all. Joyce didn’t like all the lawyer’s questions but Chris said she owed it to herself to tell the whole story. Prosecutor Dick Martin, an old friend of Lisa’s, was back in town and met with Grant because Joyce was refusing a non-guilty plea. Joyce fired her lawyer and asked Grant to take the case.

Susan finally agreed to see Emily. When Dan arrived, Susan said she’d visit her daughter only when Dan was not around. Meanwhile, Jennifer continued in remission.

Days of Our Lives

Amanda left a suicide note at Julie’s lake house and disappeared. An all-night search was conducted and Greg found Amanda unconscious in a wood shed. She was revived and confessed that she realized she wanted to live. Amanda’s feet are badly frost but there was no tissue damage. Amanda refused to see Neil saying she hated him. Greg was upset when Amanda admitted to him she was afraid she could be drawn back to her fiancée because she still loved him. Neil and Laura felt Greg was overprotective of Amanda and Neil wondered why. When Laura told Amanda she had to face Neil she agreed but refused to forgive him. She returned her engagement ring. Susan bitterly told Eric how Greg’s priorities place Amanda far ahead of her and Ann.

Maggie was depressed that there were still no feelings in her legs following the surgery. Maggie and Marty were shocked when Tom and Bill found a tumor on Maggie’s spine and realized a surgery was necessary. Maggie agreed after a talk with Bill. So absorbed in fear, Marty did not realize he called Tom Dad but Michael and Tom noticed.

Trying to reach Bob, Phyllis called during the search of Amanda and learned that Bob was staying at his club in town. She informed him Julie might be ill as her doctor was at the lake and Bob rushed to the lake but learned it was Amanda who tried to kill herself. Bob told Julie he loved her and pleaded with her to reconsider their separation. However he was angry to find Don there and Julie was nauseated by Bob’s jealousy.

Persuaded by Alice that living platonically with Trish would be bad for both of them, Mike moved in to his grandmothers’. Bill visited Jack to talk but realized too late that Jack knew nothing about Mike’s living with Trish. Furious, he insulted Jeri who slapped him. Jack threatened to tell Trish all about Jeri’s past. Jeri said she’d kill him before and left. Jack rushed to Trish’s and tried to push Michael into a fight. Jeri walked in and told Jack she was leaving him. Michael furiously told Bill he messed up when he went to Jack and that he was moving back to Trish’s to protect her from Jack. In agony, Jeri confided to Doug that Trish’s father walked out on her when she got pregnant. Broke and desperate, she became a call girl and that’s how she met Jack. Unable to tell Trish the truth, Jeri considered leaving town.

Meanwhile, Doug told Julie he was proud of the help she gave Amanda and if she would divorce Bob, he wants to marry her. Neil gave Julie a check-up and she was shocked to learn she was 2 months pregnant. She told Neil she wanted to arrange an abortion. She prayed at the hospital chapel and was stunned when Alice told her she had guessed the situation. Julie tearfully replied she had to have an abortion but didn’t know if she could.

When Neil mentioned to Phyllis his stockbroker had threatened to sell him out if he couldn’t cover his last margin call, she gave him a check insisting it was a straight business loan with interest. Neil was touched but couldn’t accept a loan from a patient et tore up the check.

The Edge of Night

Adam recalled Paul to the stand in a vain attempt to force him to admit that Taffy was shot after Martha left the apartment. Adam had no recourse but to plead with Brandy and Ira Paulson for a continuance in the trial so he could prove his theory that Fairchild and Morlock engineered the plot to entrap Bill in order to gain syndicate favors. Denied the continuance, Adam prepared his summation for the jury. Mike, recovered from hepatitis, planned to be at Adam’s site. Ira, feeling guilty for causing a rift between Adam and Brady, agreed to go with Brandy to the Karrs’ and offer the defense the opportunity for Martha to plead guilty and to hopefully obtain a lesser prison sentence. Adam was disgusted but agreed to present Martha with the option.

Kevin was surprised and pleased to learn from Geraldine that he was to have a new assignment as a world crime correspondent after the trial. Kevin was unaware that Geraldine maneuvered it to separate him from Phoebe. He told Phoebe that this trip would be their honeymoon but Geraldine who did not want Kevin to marry had her own plans. When Joe Pollack, Kevin’s editor, told him he had to leave a week’s time to cover a murder trial in London, Phoebe, unable to commit herself to hasty weddings plans, broke off with him.

Tiffany was swept off her feet by Noel’s proposal and told Geraldine she was going to accept it. Geraldine felt Tiffany didn’t know enough about the background of this man and feared he might be a fortune hunter. She also feared she might be left alone in the Mansion. Meanwhile, Noel kept paying intimate visits to Tracy’s apartment and told her his interest in Tiffany was purely business.

Johnny had been working as a double agent for the police and the syndicate for months. John and Laurie were pleased with the overtures of goodwill from Kay and Vic. Vic was the only person who believed in John’s worth when he was released from Redstone Prison. It was Vic who loaned John the money to buy the New Moon. When Walter Lepage learned that Vic and Kay had invited Lori and John to dinner, he viciously berated John. In defense of the man who once saved his life, Vic blurted out that John was a double agent. Furious, Lepage contacted Morlock who arranged to have John murdered in a robbery of the café. However, it all backfired when Vic realized the crazed robber was about to shoot John. He stepped in front of John and was gunned down. He died before Kay could even reach the hospital. Lepage, furious that Dallas was still alive ordered Morlock to take care of the problem himself. Luke Chandler who was too preoccupied about the recent discovery of two bodies, who had been identified as Vinnie and Otis, the gunmen who committed the robbery and killed Vic. They were found at the bottom of a gorge after their car crashed (Morlock had tampered the brakes). Danny went to face Morlock and forced the truth from him about Babs’ murder and his attempt murder of John. Morlock denied and Danny searched the room for the gun. General Hospital

Lee was stunned when Jim’s courtroom testimony which everyone counted on to vindicate Jessie had the opposite effect. Jim suddenly claimed Phil was alive when he went to meet him that night. Audrey was forced to realize that Lee’s only hope for saving Jessie lied in returning Jim to the stand and exposing his drunken behavior which led to his dismissal from General Hospital’s cardiac unit. Lee forced Jim to admit in open court that he had been drinking heavily and couldn’t remember that night clearly, thus discrediting Jim as a witness. Jim cruelly blamed Audrey for his public disgrace and friction developed between them, destroying what little confidence Audrey had in Jim to stop drinking. Audrey sought advice from Lee, a former alcoholic. He tried to convince her she couldn’t face it alone and should seek help from AA.

Since Jim’s callous testimony had damaged Jessie’s case, Jessie will probably have to face a criminal trial in Superior Court for murder. Jessie’s friends were very concerned over her resignation to the situation facing her. Jessie refused to care about her health, appearance or defense. Lee and Lesley both suspected Jessie might be trying to protect someone else. When Steve demanded the truth about Jessie’s health, he discovered she had a suspected case of San Joaquin Valley Fever. He was furious that both Lesley and Kira did not ignore her demands of secrecy to tell him immediately. A schism developed in Kira and Steve’s relationship when she told him she suffered too deeply from insecurity while married to Cameron to be able to compete with Steve’s love for Audrey and his concern for Jessie.

Lesley felt caught between her desire to believe in Jessie’s innocence and Joel who had doubts about Jessie. Lesley allowed herself to be influenced by Joel and tried to get Jessie to admit guilt and obtain a lesser sentence. Appalled at her own lack of trust, Lesley immediately begged forgiveness from Jessie and told Joel she felt his influence over her emotions might not be beneficial to her. Joel was still mad that Cam had his life investigated as a routine procedure before investing in the Free Clinic. When Lesley decided she had to move from Jessie’s, Cam helped her rent a quaint English cottage. Upset that Joel refused to make a life-long commitment, Lesley broke off their relationship.

ADA Ross Jeanelle, confirmed his suspicions when Lesley explained she and Joel had matched paper weights. Determined to clear Jessie, Diana went to Jessie’s hearing and as the Judge declared his decision to have Jessie tried or murder, she rose, proclaiming the murdered Phil dramatically producing the real murder weapon. Furious DA Chase Murdock fired Jeanelle. Jessie released Lee as her attorney, insisting Diana needed him. Lee was upset as Diana had decided to plead guilty.

Augusta decided to have an abortion and free Peter of any obligations to her. At the last moment, she phoned Peter who assisted her in convincing the doctors she didn’t want to lose her baby after all. After Diana’s shocking revelations in court, Peter told Augusta that although he felt a responsibility for her and the baby, he could only concentrate on Diana. Jessie admitted to Peter she saw Diana leave the office in a state of shock just before she, Jessie, found Phil’s body. Jessie had always felt guilty for his raping Diana and wanted to protect Diana whom she believed did kill Phil. Peter departed stunned, and Jessie, in a sudden violent coughing spasm, collapsed unconscious.

Joe sent Sara among others to try and get through to T.J. However, Ken tried to get Janet to resign at the clinic and take a legal secretarial job with a friend of his. When she refused, he confided his resentment to Holly who told him Janet was not worth it reminding him Janet was driving the car when they had the accident which blinded him. Despite Ed’s admonition that he had to be told in that occurred, Ken concealed it and told Janet he was a burden on Barbara and Adam and would like to take her up on the offer she made after the accident – return to their house. Tim told Bert that Pam had kidney condition and they had to take her baby prematurely to make sure she lived. Tim grew upset as he couldn’t convince Pam she was risking her life. When Pam developed hyperflexia, Tim did an amniotic tap determining the baby’s chances of survival are 25 percent. Tim asked Ed to obtain a court order to do the surgery over Pam’s objections but Ed made it clear this could only be done when a patient is not conscious. Ed and Steve Jackson told him his emotional involvement meant he had lost his objectivity and would be removed unless he could get a grip on himself. Agitated to learn Pam’s hands had been trembling for two days, Tim tried to pressure Pam intro surgery again. Steve suggested anticonvulsant treatment be kept secretly in Pam’s room but warned Tim no surgical decision was to made without concurrence from a senior surgeon. However, when Pam collapsed, Tim ordered a OR and assembled his surgical team. He told the OR charge nurse he had verbal consent from Pam and performed a brilliant caesarean on Pam. Her baby, a girl, weighed only 3 pounds and survival was doubtful. Ed and Steve learned of the surgery just as Tim was finished and notified him he was under suspension for deliberately violating direct instructions and procedures pending an investigation of this matter.

Ben took Julie to lunch to help ease her mind but blew it all by blaming Julie for the breakup of her own marriage to Mark. Eileen finally told Julie to mind her own business. Eileen’s son, Timmy, arrived home from college. He was disillusioned about lawyers and didn’t intend to return but couldn’t bring to tell Eileen. Ben was anxious to begin his own business but had no money so Eileen volunteered it but had to get Joe’s permission since he was the executor of Dave’s estate. Julie was livid and decided to move out. Timmy was surprised that Ben was younger than Eileen.

A rift began between Joe and Viki when she overheard him tell Julie that the first child is always special. Viki’s fertility tests showed she was normal but more tests would be taken. Victor chided Joe for paying more attention to Cathy than to Viki but Joe let Victor know he was aware that Victor was still angry because Viki chose him over Steve. To try to recement their love, Viki and Joe moved into their home. Meanwhile, Victor was upset with Matt for seeing Dorian, claiming Dorian was no good because of her actions during the trial. Matt stated his intentions of moving out of Llanfair to an apartment then let Victor “persuade” him to stay, his plan all along. A larger breach opened between Joe and Victor when Joe disappeared for many hours instead of attending a business dinner.

John refused Steve’s offer of the editorship of the Sunday supplement, but Victor was determined not to give up so easily. Dorian crashed in a life insurance policy to pay John back because she didn’t intend to be indebted to anyone. John asked her not to cut him out of her life but she asked to be able to run her life the way she saw fit. Matt tried to press Victor for the editorship but Victor warned him not to aspire to things beyond his talent and experience. Matt made love to Dorian but she refused to a continuing relationship. Found guilty of perjury she was given a $3,000 fine, which she didn’t have. She also received notice of a rate increase at Melinda’s sanitarium, necessitating her sister’s transfer to a state institution. Dorian received permission to practice in another hospital but had no patients yet. To stay close to Dorian, John accepted the editorship. Upset to learn that Matt was seeing Dorian, Victor stormed to her home where he experienced a pain in his arm and breathlessness.

A very alive Bill Foster was given the word that he had 3 to 6 months to live and should contact his family. He couldn’t bring himself to call but finally wrote a letter to Snapper asking if he might come home for a few days. Snapper, seeing Liz’s peace of mind, said nothing.
