If he was drinking and driving, he will almost certainly be at the very least put on leave if not fired outright. That's assuming he isn't as badly injured as the passenger.

Best wishes for both of their recovery, but drinking and driving is plain irresponsible.

Fired for drunk driving? That seems a little harsh. I Imagine if we polled every person and whether or not they ever drove drunk in their 20s the percentage would be quite high. Yes it's stupid, but the 20s are when you are expected to be stupid. This is the time he learns just how stupid it is so he can continue his life as a wise adult.

I sort of agree with you. I've always been deathly afraid of driving, so I can't even imagine doing it with alcohol in my system. Still, I do have a small amount of compassion for people who make ONE mistake in judgement. I can see how a 20 something could be at a party and not realize they were over the limit.

However, if there is a second offense, any mercy I feel is gone and I think they deserve jail time. I can only imagine how the family of drunk driving victims feel. After one offense, that's where my compassion leaves the building. Whenever I see someone who has been arrested 10 times for DWI, I wonder why the state is waiting for someone to die? At some point showing reckless disregard for other people's lives should be enough to send someone to prison for a good long time.
