Palme d'Or: Winter Sleep (Nuri Bilge Ceylan) Grand Prix: The Wonders (Alice Rohrwacher) Jury Prize: TIE; Mommy (Xavier Dolan) & Goodbye to Language (Jean Luc Godard) Director: Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher) Screenplay: Andrey Zvyagintsev & Oleg Negin (Leviathan) Actor: Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner) Actress: Julianne Moore (Maps to the Stars) The Toronto International Film Festival ends tomorrow, so their awards will be posted in the next couple days. I was so happy to see Julianne Moore get recognized at Cannes. She always comes out like a bridesmaid at the major awards so to see her finally win a big one was awesome. And my love for Xavier Dolan knows no bounds, so him pulling out the Jury Prize, when he was in such an underrated position to do so, was inspiring. She'll probably lazily get another nomination, definitely of a Golden Globe at least, this one undeserved. Plus, Bradley Cooper does not work in that role at all. Serena is literally one of the most evil/deranged characters out there. Not sure why the trailer downplayed that (probably to try to convince audiences this is another Bradly/JLaw "love affair" story), but if the script is halfway decent, JLaw will earn that Oscar nom. I had heard about her playing that type of character in an upcoming film, but I wasn't sure if it was this one. I think it's a safe bet that The Imitation Game will at least get nominated for Best Picture. Benedict Cumberbatch may snag his first Oscar nod and since they have nominated her before, Keira Knightley could be in the running for a nomination as well. Members Bright Eyes Posted October 29, 2014 Members Share Posted October 29, 2014 Deauville doesn't give a strong glimpse for Best Picture at the Oscars, but it does further the acclaim for Whiplash, which also won big at Sundance and helps Miles Teller's chances of being nominated. Some are saying JK Simmons could land himself a supporting nomination as well. At the very least, you'll probably see Whiplash garner some Independent Spirit Award nominations. It's so great to see a favourite actor rise and rise. They gave Eddie Redmayne the breakthrough actor award, so it seems he and Cumberbatch are the biggest obstacles to winning an Oscar in the best actor category.
