I thank the Good Lord every day that they made "Every Man's Family." Otherwise, I still would have been confused about my sexuality.

ICAM, Chit, about the addition of Carl Weathers to the show. I get what Carroll O'Connor was attempting to do, but I think he chose the wrong actor to do it. Perhaps he should have skewed a bit older and hired John Amos? Maybe he could have played a retired cop who is called back into service to run the Gillespie-less Sparta P.D.? I don't know.

Regardless, I think O'Connor and his team recognized immediately they had made a mistake. That's why Weathers seems to be on less and less as episodes progress. Of course, that meant others had to pick up the slack, and you KNOW you are in trouble when you build a whole episode around Parker Williams.

It really captured the post civil rights era south, it didn't go over the top with the racism element, but it was very clearly expressed and I liked how Gillespe was shown to still be battling his own racial demons, to some extent.

As far a reboot goes, I would hope that they could capture that same sort of vibe, but from a modern perspective.

If they don't include him somehow in the reboot, they will surely fail. Bubba doesn't still have to be on the force. He could be retired, let's say, and running the Mason Dixieline, which has become a sort of "cop bar" in the years since he took it over. Or he could be the mayor of Sparta, in a nod to AA's real-life political career. Or he could just hang outside the courthouse all day in nothing but a pair of jeans and a hat. He just has to be there.

Yeah, you're probably right, lol.

But isn't it nice to dream?

A television show based on the film of same name (Academy Award Best Picture winner) starring Sidney Poitier. Basically about a black detective moving back to his Mississippi hometown being the lead detective in a newly integrated police department.

ETA: Luke Everett from the later years could have gotten it too. ^_^
