If Burton is telling truth, much thanks. He saved us from a neverending wailing, gnashing of teeth, and rending of garments over Jason's demise. Instead, he got a send off appropriate for a waste of space legacy character.
I generally don't like reading interviews and I find Fairman's interviews more difficult to read than most others.

No, he states that he was in negotiations, they fell through, his last tape date was coming up and they were writing so far ahead they didnt have time for anything.
I am sure they knew he might be out as he was in contract talks.
Great interview though, really.
