Did Samantha even exist outside of flashbacks(and that was too much for me)?

How about Scott Hoylrod as a Chris Hughes (ugh, the travesty that was Bailey Chase) instead of Paul Ryan? (I floved him as Paul---but he probably was too young for the role...) And in returned I would not have been skeeved out by the Alison/Chris pairing while Jessie Dunphy was in the role.

I dont think SJB would have necesarily done better in a different role. Theres no reason why Sandy couldnt have been written as a villian.B&B
Sarah Joy Brown - A villain

No, but she could have.
I cna't say TS would've done better in a role that never existed outside of flashbacks. Especially since that fmaily was overall terrible.

Texas Battle as Zende Forrester-Dominguez (since Brad wanted an African American Forrester there was no reason for Eric to adopt the adult son of his wife for five minutes)
Sarah Brown as Sarah Horton on DAYS
Tamara Brown as Sarah Horton on DAYS
James Scott as Andrew Donovan on DAYS
Y&R's Leslie should be playing Lily

Brandon Beemer as Thomas Forrester on B&B
Texas Battle as Zende Forrester-Dominguez (since Brad wanted an African American Forrester there was no reason for Eric to adopt the adult son of his wife for five minutes)
35+ years old TB was too old to play Marcus. He'd be WAY too old to play Zende

I always thought Ron Raines should have been a recast Mike Bauer on GL instead of Alan. He was too nice to be Alan and his interperation came off as blustery and grumpy. I think Marj Dusay should have been cast as either a woman who married into Spaulding money, or some Tulsa broad who married H.B. off screen and now has stock in both Lewis and Spaulding and just likes to raise hell. I also think DAM would make a great Tom Hughes, instead of an evil prince. The time he was good on GL he just came off as so all American and healthy. Much better then the sour, dour Tom we got.

Young and the Restless' Michael Graziadei comes to mind first.
When he took over for Cam Gigandet in 2004, he played the role kinda shady and like a playboy (which Gigandet was perfect at) but somewhere down the road (I think after Cassie's 2005 death), Daniel became goody two shoes and super boring. Even during his cybersex addiction storyline, he never really had that sting.
Daniel was the first born child of Phyllis Romalotti and should have ALWAYS been a conniving troublemaker. After all, he didn't have any of his goody two-shoes "dad" Danny's genes.

Janet? Hell no!
I preferred and love Kate Collins, but I would have preferred the baby switch happened with Janet and Amanda (characters with history to the show, and Janet as the perfect manipulator and fallguy) than those damn Careys taking over the show.

Richard Guthrie as Steve Olsen
In 76 it would have been possible for Sandy to have now been a practising doctor. With a few tweaks Marlena could have been Sandy and the Horton family would have been bolstered to this day.
Days aged Julie's son David way too quickly and pushed Susan Seaforth into being a grandmother when she was still in her 30's.
David's stories could have been given to Julie's brother Steve(another under used character) and Julie could have a concerned older sister rather than mother.

^While that would have worked, Dee as Sandy, I have always admired how Marlena was able ti became a central character, along with her kids, while not she wasnt a member of a major family or even a family. She effortlessly fit into the show and worked across the canvas. I wish we had more characters like that. Its partially the reason I hated DAYS making Melanie maggies granddaughter, when they already had that bond and that twist wasnt needed and failed basically.

On AMC, I feel that Beth Ehlers should have been cast as Liza or perhaps a new Hayley.

Hayley yes but definetly not Liza. She doesnt have the stature I associate with the character
