What are your least favorite Retcons and Rewrites on Daytime soaps?

Viki was raped by her father - OLTL

Todd Manning is the Lord heir - OLTL

David Vickers is Bo's son - OLTL

Jessica was molested and had an alter - OLTL

 

The third one was pointless, stupid, and a great example of what a hack Ron Carlivati is. The other three basically destroyed OLTL.

 

Amanda is Alan's sister, not his daughter - GL

 

James Stenbeck is still alive, had a long lost son with Lucinda (even though he had never actually met her until she was well past her child-bearing years), ATWT

First and foremost the constant retcons of who Rex's parents were on OLTL. Did anyone really give a f-ck?

The same thing with John Black on DAYS.

I would love an OLTL fan to post a chronological write up of Viki's reasons for her D.I.D, Tina's paternity, Todd's paternity/maternity as it happened on the show.

Ethan's existence period bothers me and I'm talking about both Ethan Ashby on Y&R and Ethan Lovett on GH.  Since they fixed it so that we found out one is jsut a complete liar and related to nobody important fix the other so  he's related to nobody as well.

3. Bianca being Michael Cambias's killer - the early scenes CLEARLY set up Erica being the killer and David helping her in some way, likely helping her dispose of the body.

Todd (TSJ) was actually a brainwashed twin and the original was tucked away for EIGHT years

If he were smart he'd write it off as a bad con and have Ethan related to nobody.

Well yeah about Ethan, but I doubt they'll undo him completely so at least rewrite the rewrite and make him the son of RnH cause that makes sense

There is no reason why they can't undo it completely. That's the best possible solution. Damage has been done that cna't be reversed so their is no reason to change his paternity. Luke cheated will Holly it can't be undone.

How? By saying Holly lied this whole time about messing with Luke? That Luke was a complete idiot into thinking Ethan could be his son when they never had sex. I dont see the point at this stage in the game. Does nothing but just make the parties involve look incredibly stupid (and in Holly's case, still terrible). The only purpose I could see is trying to preserve Luke and Laura as this infalliable couple but they are already tarnished with or without Luke cheating with Holly

I'll add another. Y&R: Jill is not Katherine's daughter. I know people hated the original rewrite, but this was a perfect example of just going with the flow bc things were forever changed. Retconning the retcon was an awful mess which made things even worse, especially with what it did with Liz. MAB proved that she could really screw things up. The Kat/Jill dynamic was forever changed when they had them related and undoing that wasnt going to fix things. They should have just left it alone

 

OLTL: Todd (TSJ) is actually a brainwashed twin while the original was tucked away for EIGHT years. That storyline seriously made an IDIOT out of everyone who had crossed paths with the character before and after the switch and the explanation was one of the most bizarre, over the top and assinine retcon in soap history. People want to talk about bad fanfic. The episodes surrounding that reveal were just that. And it brings me to another one

 

Irene Manning didnt die of cancer. Instead she became some renegade CIA mastermind whom faked her death and abandoned her children. NO words for that
