SO sad. I loved her as Meddlesome Mary and her hatred of literally every woman Paul ever dated or married. She was the missing link in the recent Patty return IMO.

RIP Carolyn. You will be missed.

Loved her work as Mary. Mary was such a realistic soap mother, passive-aggressive, controlling, but also capable of moments of kindness and caring. She made Paul's world very believable. And Carolyn was a fantastic actress. If you think she was just playing an easy role, go look at her work as hooker of the week in shows like Knots Landing. Night and day.

I loved her random ass appearances. RIP. A lesser actress would've made this character grating, but strangely Conwell made this role WORK.

One of the many causalities of Jack Smith's purge of the secondary supporting characters, characters only Y&R had and made the show unique.

I enjoyed her appearances in the '90s. She was an unique soap presence, kind of like a grittier Enid Nelson. May she rest in peace.

Another legend lost. Jack Smith was just awful on Y&R. He couldnt balance Mary with the rest of the secondary cast. Thats why William J. Bell was so good. He knew how to do that!

Sad and even sadder that Y&R cared so little about her contribution to the show. She was fantastic and totally credible as a meddling mother. When she was last on the show was the last time I actually cared about Paul.

My favorite story was when they dusted off the Liz Foster story and had Carl Williams return from the dead. This was a chance for Mary to be more than just the meddling mother (she finally let Carl go in her mind, found new love, and then Carl returned, with amnesia). Unfortunately the story was badly truncated.

Re the Mary clip posted See, that's a typical Bill Bell scene where very little is vocalized and no big revelation happens, yet there's SO much subtext and unspoken history and emotion bubbling under the surface, even for people who don't know the characters. How come we can't get scenes like that anymore? Now we either get the crazy OTT Carlivati madness or the snooze-worthy stuff JG is currently dishing out.

Mary's meddling got tedious at the end. It became too repetitive. I did like that she didnt care for Christine. Carolyn could say so much with so little words. The Carl storyline was just dreadful even though the acting was top notch.

This is one of my favorite scenes she has with Paul, she's so grating but you can't help but see the comedy in these scenes.
