Reports of SOAPnet's March demise to make room for Disney, Jr. were premature, it seems. The network, which re-airs GH, Y&R and DAYS, as well as beloved daytime and prime-time shows, isn't fading to black so soon. "We've always viewed the launch of Disney Junior as a transition, not a flip of a switch, and as such SOAPnet will remain available for an undetermined period of time as additional carriage deals for Disney Junior are finalized with distributors," says a spokesperson for the network.

Wasn't there a soap guy who was a producer or something who insisted this all along and no one believed him?

Anyone who read the original release closely it never said it was a switch on and off and I am sure this news was already reported weeks ago in SID or another publication and was posted in another thread. Disney Jr has yet to finalize all their deals. There is a website run by Disney Jr you can goto to see if your provider is switching over. I have Comcast and lose Soapnet on Friday as Disney Jr. takes over. Direct TV and UVerse as of yet for example do not have new deals in place and will continue to air Soapnet.

Soap Opera Digest has been extremely misleading with these releases, a few weeks ago I posted their news about SoapNet carrying Veronica Mars in April in another thread. Bascially, some cable providers (or distributors) have not finalized deals to carry Disney Jr. so until they do they will continue to carry SoapNet.

Looks like SoapNet is staying on for me. YEA!

Hopefully by the time it ends around here all the classic soaps will be on Sept. 2007's episodes. Which, is when I started watching all them *AMC/OLTL/GH* in the first place. So, I will be caught up.

According to that site, Chicago will still have it thru RCN but not thru Comcast... glad I have RCN so it'll stick around a lil longer.

Boo. TimeWarner is switching over this week, but AT&T U-verse is not. I wonder if I could convince my husband to switch back to U-verse just to keep SoapNet...

My TimeWarner is switching it this week <_<

I still don't see Disney JR being a success, a 24 hour kids channel is not needed

We have Verizon and it's switching. I checked Cox and it's not doing it yet. Even though i now DVD some episodes of AMC in the middle of the night, i havn't been a fan of soapnet in years.

I remember when i first realized i had Soapnet in early 2002. It was great! I could watch Knots Landing, Sisters, Falcon Crest. then Dynasty and Dallas came on a few years later and that was good too. but then it started getting more current with BH 90210 and the OC. I'm glad Brothers & Sisters is on it but it used to be THE channel for classic soaps. not anymore.

The Disney Channel (yes, I watch that sometimes) have aired commercials for weeks now saying that Disney Jr. is debuting March 23rd. So I don't know. Guess we will find out what happens on Friday, lol.

From the Disney Jr. the Channel website, it looks like you will get the channel if you have one of the following major cable systems:

Bright House, Cablevision, Time Warner, Verizon, and Xfinity (Comcast).

Also, maybe this article will help...it is talking about Pittsburgh though.

So long, SOAPnet (or not)

So far Disney-ABC has done an atrocious job of messaging on their launch of Disney Jr., which was expected to replace SOAPnet this Friday.
But not so fast.

Turns out that's not happening everywhere. I only figured this out when I received an email containing SOAPnet's schedule for April, which prompted a "WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?"

So what is happening with SOAPnet? Find out after the jump. ...

Looks like it's choose your own adventure for the Disney Jr.-SOAPnet situation with one of the following taking place depending on the cable sytem:

-- Keep SOAPnet and add Disney Jr. as another channel.

-- Switch SOAPnet to Disney Jr.

-- Keep SOAPnet until the cable company's contract expires and then add Disney Jr. at that time and drop SOAPnet.

Here's what is happening on local systems:

Comcast will switch from SOAPnet to Disney Jr. but not until April 23.

Verizon's FiOSTV will keep SOAPnet and add Disney Jr. on Channel 260 on March 29.

Armstrong cable will likely keep SOAPnet until the end of 2012 and then switch it to Disney Jr.

Among national satellite companies, DirecTV will keep SOAPnet for the foreseeable future and has no plans to add Disney Jr. Two DISH Network publicists did not respond to requests for comment.

For cable customers who will keep SOAPnet, episodes of the late "Veronica Mars" will air beginning April 7.

For those who get Disney Jr., "Doc McStuffins," an animated series for kis ages 2-7, will air at 4 p.m. Friday. The show also will air during the Disney Jr. block on regular Disney Channel at 10 a.m. Friday. The animated series is about a little girl named Doc who talks to stuffed animals -- and they talk back.
