Lyla & Iva were favorites of mine as well.

Liz Talbot was very genteel & elegant. It was shocking when she died. Everyone thought poor Betsy had been left an orphan because Paul (whom most people thought was her father) had died too. I think it wasn't until several years later that Betsy finally learned Dan was her father (I think Liz had only told Dan the truth while on her death bed).

I can't remember exactly why the Stewart girls decided to change their names. I think it may have been just a teen rebellion thing. I think it occurred when Marcia McClain & Martina Deignan took over the roles. I didn't like it at the time because I thought Dawn & Carol were prettier names than Dee & Annie! Maybe the show didn't want two Carols on at the same time?

I will check out your tribute!

I was also going to ask if you had seen the 1978 episode that Oakdalian uploaded, or the 1981/2 episode genoacityguy uploaded. PatC2000 and ChuckR7 also have some clips of the early 80s.

I always thought it was interesting that the first Liz quit because she knew Irna Phillips couldn't stand her, and wanted to kill Liz, through pneumonia, but fan outcry stopped it. Then with the recast Irna wanted to burn her alive on her honeymoon, but P&G said no because that had been done recently, so Liz fell up the stairs. Do you remember the recast or did you not notice at the time?

At the time did the "falling up the stairs" thing annoy you or is that one of those things which became fan lore later on?

One of those old magazines has Jane House talking about when she was a stripper in Lenny (which is the reason Irna hated her), and how she was so nervous when her father came to see the play, because he's a British ambassador, but then he told her he liked the play.

I wasn't annoyed by the "falling up the stairs" because it was more of a stumble or trip up (though I did find it hard to believe you could damage your spleen so badly from that type of fall). Interesting story about Jane. I didn't even know that Irna didn't like her but I'm not surprised based on some other things I've read about Irna.

From the November 26, 1991 Soap Opera Weekly (K-III Magazines). I have a tough time scanning Weeklys so apologies for the quality. I decided to crop around the words on the first page and just type that up. If you can't see the second page clearly I can type that up too, let me know.

Or the Bauers, Spauldings, etc. I rememeber my mom wrapping presents and watching ATWT and GL.

Does anyone remember how the Scott Eldridge story played out? I remember them bringing back that RH actor as John Eldridge (which looked ridiculous as he was way younger then Fulton) and he was dying, but how did Scott find out Lisa was his mom and who was the actual father. I also remember flashbacks of Lisa with young actors playing John and his brother, and it was kind of gross, Fulton was playing Lisa and the actors were all younger ( I remember SOD saying, "Next time Lisa, just tell us about it, we will beleive you!")
