Neither is Britney though. LOL!

True, but Britney seemed to inspire enough parodies and derision (especially around the time of that bad show with K-Fed). Janet just seems very reserved, unless she's going to give Simon and LA Reid lap dances.

Then again from what I keep reading, Britney is also a robot now.

I think it's a mistake for the show to assume hiring pop acts as judges will bring in viewers.

Carl, I'm about to kick off my kitten heels, take off my earrings and throw down after that Janet shade!! :P She is adorable and she's actually very outspoken (think back to that Madonna fued she provoked back in the day). Yes she's a nice person, but I don't think that would hurt her. She's smart and the public is loving her these days. She's also somebody with true X Factor. She can dance, sing, write music, she produces it and could truly mentor a group or a solo artist to success. Whatever category Britney gets (and they'll give her an easy, more desirable one like Boys or Girls), I can't see her mentoring anybody or talking to them. I'm mostly excited to see how funny it is. We all know it's gonna be rough.

I will say, it's so sad, but Whitney would've been brilliant. I LOVED when she did the Master Class on the UK show and pretty much told every contestant they were garbage and that they were fools for trying to sing her songs. She had a great wit, facial expressions and is made for a show like this. Her during the audience stage would've been classic.

Britney is perfect for this show. It is the X FACTOR, and Britney has it in spades, above and beyond anyone else currently in the game. At her best, at her worst, doing nothing at all - people are obsessed. And, no, it is not just the media or hype. There is a genuine interest in her, because has the X Factor about her.

Nicole was a disaster from Day One. Especially over Cheryl. On the UK show she was kinda cute, but you could tell how vapid she was on that version. Her biggest soundbite was telling an obviously terrible singer "I think you need to work on your vocals..." Well no [!@#$%^&*], lol.

I just read this spot on post by Archvile6 from PopJustice forums and it sums Britney up well.

[indent=1]But why would she be such a good mentor? A good judge? A good anything for a talent show? She herself hasn't been good at even one thing for 8 years, whether it be dancing, singing, writing, even looking like a popstar. I just am at an absolute loss as to what Britney Spears could bring to the table of a show looking to find new talent. Sure she sells albums (medicore sales, but hey) and sells out her tours - but that's because she has an old, dedicated, and slightly insane fanbase. Not because she's technically worth anything as a popstar anymore. This is purely for ratings and nothing more. There are so many other viable options who could've actually been great candidates for the job, but instead they go for a zombie with an enterprise.

I agree with him that this is a ratings ploy (which we all see), but it's going to be brilliant. X Factor needs some camp and over the top-ness. She's going to be Sinitta and Louis Walsh mixed together, but crazier.

The "zombie" part is what sticks for me. I keep hearing about how she isn't really there now.

I love it when those who didnt both to go to her last two tours judge them. Its highly amusing, like the one writer for i believe the LA times who gave it an awful review and then the paper had to apologize because it came out he didnt go to the show because he said she didnt speak or engage the audience, when there was proof she did both. That was amazing.

Selling albums in the age is major. Selling tours is major. Britney is major, and she does it all on little talent. This is not a show about being the best, it is a show about having something special that sets you apart even tho you are not the best. She stayed relevent and on top while compeltely breaking down and being put on a mental watch, through rehab, and much more and while she had the people who enjoyed it, a lot of people rooted for her to make it through. Mariah Carey is another one who has that X factor.

I just wish she would pass on this and take the offer for a standing show in Vegas, for selfish reasons. Piece of Me honestly sums up her life, career, and the attention she gets even when not trying so well. It is perfect.

It's not so much about her concerts, just that people seem to feel that a certain light went out around the time of her mental break and her father taking over her life 4-5 years back.

It did. Because ya know, she had a complete and utter mental breakdown and was put in a psych hospital because of it. Is she back to her old, pre-breakdown self? No. Im not sure anyone who goes through something like that ever does. However, she still delivers and knows how to put on a show. She came back and did better than she was doing before. The weirdest part is that she somehow maintains a somewhat private life now. The docu, For The Record, was so, so sad.

I've heard a lot of positive comments about her concerts, I am just not sure if that would translate to being on the panel, or mentoring. I think that takes a lot out of a person, in conjunction with their busy career (although I guess at $15 million she could scale back her career somewhat).

Oh, ites very different and comments are def important, but if she can do it they couldnt have picked a better person. She isnt doing much right now tho, so this should work well.

Fitting that britney is doing X Factor and Christina is doing The Voice.

The deal is supposedly 13 million for being a judge + 2 million bonus for performances. I'm guessing they may take away bonuses if they deem her not capable to perform.

The "zombie" part is what sticks for me. I keep hearing about how she isn't really there now.

I just can't get out of my mind, because I watched the clips recently, how she went from so mobile and capable on stage ("Like a Virgin" at the VMA's) to barely able to stand almost still and talk straight (her comeback performance at the VMA's or performance with Rihanna). I would think that maybe she's gotten somewhat better since those performances. No? Time to heal mentally and train?

I think part of the reason they went after Britney hard is she probably still has some of the train-wreck elements a la Paula.

ETA:

"Like a Virgin"

"S&M" (This was only as far back as 2011? Yikes, slight improvement from her earlier solo comeback at the VMAs)

Britney's last tour was lampooned for half-assed and botched dance moves, not to mention her usual lip-syncing (though she did try some live singing).

I feel sorry for her, but really, her shows are not that entertaining to me. I always get the feeling she'd rather be doing something else and her heart is no longer in the music/performing business.

This is basically the performing she's reduced to nowadays:

Maybe judging on this show will be something new and exciting for her...

That's kind of sad, going through the motions. I'm sure she could retire but I'm guessing there may be people in her ear who want her to continue delivering them cash.

Could give her a second wind as a performer OR it could just be something fun. I'm rooting for her. She appears stable to me mentally, it's just she's no longer very good at live performances of any type.

I normally don't go along with all the comments that Simon Cowell must be gay, but some of the PR coming out lately is just ludicrous. He was having affairs with three women at the same time! So and so says they did it eleven times in one night!

Looks like she is [!@#$%^&*] marching and about to get on her pole on the second video....lol Long gone are the days when she was the "it" thing.....I still remember getting her first single on cd.

I hope that it works out. It sounds like she got about what her people wanted (I can't remember the amount thrown around a few months ago). I don't know if I will watch this but I hope it is a success, mostly because Adam Levine/Blake Shelton/Christina Aguiliera come across as being vile people and that Voice show is a bunch of hypocritical bull and just an excuse for those involved to push all kinds of petty vendettas.

Omg just no to Miley Cyrus being a judge. Can't they just stick with three?! And there's a possibility of two new hosts? They are doing way too much. Less is more!

Thanks for posting the news. Eager to see how Britney does as a judge!
