People give me this pathetic shocked look when it ever comes up that I watch soaps. They admit that they watched soaps in college, but can't believe that anyone with half a brain would still watch soaps. The stigma is there.

Sounds like Days and GH tied for the 18-49 women demo. Kudos to Days for its audience increase. I don't know how they are doing, but the show is solid and well written.

Looks like for this week's latest ratings, DOOL went up:

I am thrilled that GH did not beat them with the return of the great JJ and the murder of Claudia crap. And Days is firing on all fronts. They had the guts to fire key cast members(take a lesson GH), cut salaries, and go back to what I call old fashioned soapy storytelling. The vets that remain are key characters in key storylines going on and they don't shove newbies on 24 by 7. The integrate younger/newer cast members with established characters and vets. While the show is not great, I think it by far is back to what they need to do to be successful.

So for all the hype, GH gained .1 in their 2 key demos? I guess I'll wait to see the rest but kudos to Days. they deserve it.

Right last week was JJ's return and sweeps started on Thursday with Claudia kidnapping Carly on Friday. It seems like GH went up, but Days matched them in the key 18-49 women demo. We'll have to see if Days held on to 3rd in overall viewers.

I was skeptical that JJ and the Claudia story could bump GH's ratings. .1 may be a natural fluctuation. Whatever the reason for the bump, GH cannot out pace Days which is becoming the no. 3 soap and holding its own in the demos.

Days is now solidly in 3rd place. And honestly they deserve it. The returns they have (Carly especially with the fabulous Crystal Chappel) IMO is equal to or bigger than JJ. She had a huge following at GL with the Otalia storyline and I have to believe not only lapsed Days fans but also Otalia fans followed her over. I think she's terrific and finally helps add some drama and spice to Hope and Bo along with Wally Kurths return there.

Unless DAYS tied with The View, in which case GH is either the same or down from last week.

Oh you are correct. Last time the Days press release was posted it was the same thing. I thought it was GH Days was tied with and it turned out to be The View then also. Kill me I'd love it if all the ONLINE hype for JJ went no where. Although Sarah Brown worked her acting a*s off these past couple of weeks and it would be nice if folks could have tuned in for that.

It is hard to believe that GH is down from last week. After all that promotion of their two big happenings: JJ's return and Claudia's departure.

Yeah, Carly's return is much bigger then JJ's return. She is probably bringing the GL and especially Otalia fans over. I think DOOL is going to keep going up in the coming weeks: with Vivian/Carly stuff.

They could have stayed the same also.

The View is pretty consistantly ahead of all the ABC soaps in ratings. It's the only show on ABCD that continues to gain viewers.

Yep and when I look at the promotion GH gave JJ's return, the Carly/Vivian returns on Days is much bigger. And Days may have been the one soap to benefit from GL's demise because of Crystal.

And where was all the hype about Claudia and JJ's return. Online for the most part.

Days has been over 3 million viewers the past few weeks while GH has been at 2.5. I'd be shocked if GH gained 500K viewers in one week.

I just wonder if GH is even the highest rated ABC soap for the week.

I don't want to put too much on Carly's return, because if the ratings go back down then she will also likely get the blame. I think that DAYS is just a consistently solid, non-offensive soap. The show has a lot of good to OK things going on. Some stories don't work but nothing makes you disgusted, whereas a lot of stories on GH are disgusting.

I think the Carly/Vivian returns also bring back people who watched long ago or who have never watched but are curious. The show is now nonoffensive enough that they will keep trying.

GH is a very offensive show, and a lot of those who watched during the JJ era gave up for reasons beyond his leaving. They may not have cared enough to have just returned for his return. They may have been wary of the changes, especially to Lucky. For instance, you didn't have a 10 year period where the writers recast Carly and Vivian and treated them like crap.

And I also wonder how many Greg Vaughan fans may have quit, and if this may have blunted some of the impact. I think that Vaughan was a lot more popular than GH ever admitted. I think that's one of the reasons they hated him so much.

I didn't mean to put the burden on Carly but I do think it's added interest and drama and hopefully turns out to be a decent storyline for all.

And JJ I'm sorry. I know many are excited about his return but he's been gone 10 years. I remember all the accollades when Sarah Brown was returning and she was gone for 10 years and nothing. Granted she returned as someone new but there was actually a ratings drop when she returned and it never did spike back.

And I do think Greg Vaughan, despite many calling him unLucky and not Lucky, was hugely popular. Many who didnt watch when JJ was on only know Greg as Lucky. I like JJ but I personally am sick and tired of all the hype, like he is Jesus Christ coming to "back to the old GH" to save it.

And do many people really find GH offensive?
