ABC Rebuffs Rumors of Shuffling Daytime Schedule

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- ABC films a new talk show pilot featuring comedic actress Aisha Tyler, while denying that it will take the place of an exsisting program on the network's daytime schedule.

I'm not sure I believe their denials. Frons has never had any love for OLTL and I can see him dumping this or AMC within the next year if Tyler's show has potential.

I do for a couple of reasons---one, that just sounds like another one of the random on for a year talk shows by actors who shouldn't be having their own talk show--Tempestt, Chevy Chase come to mind. Sorry, this doesn't strike me at all as a long term success. Syndicating it for the couple of years it might run makes more sense then building it as a replace for a daytime drama. It's additional money for ABC, not replacement money.

It's also not going to bring in the money ABC daytime does, especially with the SoapNet aspect. With what ABC does make from daytime, a replacement project is going to have to be strong, and this doesn't sound like it at all.

Between AMC and OLTL, OLTL is a much better looking show and Frons said in an interview he was a fan of OLTL and GH before he joined the network. He had never seen AMC prior to that.

I don't get why people assume Frons has it out for OLTL.

Well after watching OLTL this week, I'd say the results speak for themselves. I find it hard to believe that the show could go from being so good this time last year to being this bad by accident.

I don't think he's out for any of the soaps personally. He just makes horrible decision after horrible decision and he can't admit he's wrong because of his huge ego.

Exactly. OLTL is not the red-headed stepchild of ABC Daytime it was under Angela Shapiro.

In one of his first interviews after starting at ABC Frons said that he took the job primarily because of SoapNet and GH, but also stated that he was a fan of OLTL. All Frons' comments regarding AMC were negative (the writing sucked, too much emphasis on "characters like Adam, Liza, David and Anna"-ie. adult characters- and not enough Aidan (who at the time was very much a newbie) and Simone (who at the time was not particularly popular). When asked who he wanted to bring back to each show for OLTL it was Robin Strasser, for GH it was Genie Francis and for AMC it was Cameron Freaking Mathison.

One of this first moves was to re-hire Michael Malone and Josh Griffith for OLTL, something fans had been begging for for years. AMC got the very cheap, very sucky, and very unfamiliar-with-AMC Gordon Rayfield.

There was another interview where Frons was talking about his soap watching schedule where he only mentioned DOOL, GH and OLTL.

Whenever Frons wants to experiment with something he knows probably won't go over well like reality shows within a soap (ex. Fusions's Sexiest Man Contest, Colby's Sweet Sixteen), music promotion (remember that damn Apologies song that they played like five times an episode for 2 months straight!?) shaky cams, eliminating breakdown writers etc it's always AMC that gets stuck with it.

When Passions was cancelled Frons had ads on SoapNet telling Passions viewers to "check out GH and OLTL", but not AMC.

The ABC soaps are all about what Frons wants to see. It's his personal 3 hours of TV to feature the actors he wants to see, the couples that make him squeeeee, the half-naked actresses he wants to see, and to get revenge on those who have crossed him. And he has made it clear time and again over the last 7 years that what he doesn't particularly care to see is AMC.

Wasn't Lorraine Broderick offered the head writing position at AMC in 2003 before McTavish's 3rd disastrous run? I believe she was demoted from the HW position at OLTL for Malone and Griffith and they offered her AMC, but she declined. I wonder why she declined. AMC would have been so much better under her.

Well if ABC is denying it then we can all breathe a sigh of relief because ABC never lies.

A talk/entertainment/political show starring Aisha Tyler would probably appeal to the same audience that the View attracts and we know how well that does for ABC. I happen to really like Aisha but I'd rather see her as a correspondent on The Daily Show or something like that. If the network want to blow out a soap they can show rerun of old primetime shows like My SoCalled Life or Once and Again until they figure out what to do. The shows are soapy and it won't cost a thing.
