Ghostly returns for finales seems so cheap to me, and only highlights what a poor mistake it was to kill these characters off in the first place. A cliffhanger ending for the finale would be frustrating too.
I feel like Harley almost has to be there to say goodbye. The show wasted so many years having Reva and Harley as its focus, it just feels strange going off without her. After Kim Zimmer, Beth Ehlers was probably the show's central female star over the past 20 years, but I never really liked the Harley that returned in 1997, the real Harley left in 1993 and never returned, IMO.
A cliffhanger wouldn't bother me that much as long as they indicated the outcome would be positive. A Capitol cliffhanger, no.
I don't mind ghostly visits because the show itself is going to be a ghost soon. I think Nadine and Maureen would be able to have some moments of closure and farewell with many of their friends and family. They could do like RH did, and have Maureen return to give her blessing to Ed, maybe Ed marrying Holly in one of the last episodes.
I also wouldn't mind seeing Reva's mother Sarah, especially if they kill Reva off.
I also felt like the Harley of 1997 was not Harley, although I still saw most of her (especially in the brief Cedars Ball return for the anniversary) until she was paired with Phillip. That pairing killed most of her spirit for me. That's why I don't care as much as I once would have if Harley returns. I don't think the Coopers have ever really worked as a family without Nadine.
That scenario works great for me, I think it's so important for Ross to return. I don't care if it's the very last show, he needs to be there.
That's also how I feel. I just want to see this resolved.
