SON Top 10 Returns!

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- After a two year absence, the Soap Opera Network Top 10 poll returns just in time to ring in the new year.

Who is Daytime's Top Actress? Actor? Couple? Only you can decide as SoapOperaNetwork.com is proud to return to you the SON Top 10.

When the last Top 10 ballot was cast on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 and the last results chart posted on Thursday, November 16, 2006, ABC's "One Life to Live" was dominating the charts. Renee Elise Goldsberry (ex-Evangeline Williamson) was Daytime's Top Actress for the 34th week (out of 96 weeks) and David Fumero was Daytime's Top Actor for the third time in 31 tries. While he ranked a distant number 2 in vote counts at the time, "General Hospital's" Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) held the record of most weeks in the Top 10 (169) and most weeks spent at #1 (91). Only "All My Children's" Alicia Minshew (Kendal Hart) and "One Life's" Michael Easton (John McBain) came close as each held on at 131 and 105 weeks on the chart, respectively. "General Hospital" was daytime's Top soap as it ranked #1 for a record 73 weeks. "All My Children" was second with 66 weeks spent at #1.

With so much history behind it, it is anyone's guess as to why we decided to pull the plug on this once popular feature. Look for the SON Top 10 to begin accepting new votes on Friday, January 2, 2009 for episodes covering the week of December 29, 2008 - January 2, 2009.

I like that you're bringing it back, but I hope it will be more fair this time, that one soap won't dominate like it did the last time

I'm excited it's back, but am weary--seriously, another poll where fanbases can "gather" votes and dominate--not looking forward to it. I can just imagine the Thorsten/Van Hansis/Michael Easton/Jason Thompson weekly battles.

Ditto on both counts!! It's only been 2 years? It seems like is been longer.

The only way to make the Top 10 fair and balanced is if you guys go out and spread the word to those fans of actors YOU think are most deserving,

That will at least get the one or two random top tens, but it's not going to stop the rabid fan base voting--remember all the fun when someone would make the top 5 and they hadn't been in scenes together or even on screen? Sadly, there's not an answer to combating rabid fan voting and making any poll fair, or even balanced.

But I am excited! Is Matt going to be running it again?

Unfortunately Matt is no longer with us. He's moved on to other things. I'll be overseeing the Top 10 process.

If someone is not on that week, the best way to keep them off the list is to inform me via email ([email protected]) before posting the Top 10 for that week. You have Five days before the post date to let me know who wasn't on, from the list given in the Top 10 poll.

Personally I have no problems anymore with folks not making it when they weren't on. I enjoyed the DAytime TV Reader's Poll a lot. And they would not exclude people ever even when they were not on. I remember the Dark Shadows actors made the polls for quite awhile even after the show left the air.

Alot of it depends on what the poll is meant to be. If it is meant to be a popularity poll then there should be no restrictions. If it is meant to be a best of the week then yes they should be excluded.

I really look forward to this. And as before as many of us said the only way to fight against the fan bases is for everyone to vote and to get their friends to vote. There were so many before that would complain but would never vote.

The poll won't be made available until tomorrow at 4:00 PM. A new post will be created for this purpose.

If it were just a popularity thing then we wouldn't need it as often.
