B&B has been so driven and emotional this week so I'm expecting a well deserved 2.8 or higher for the week of December 8-12. B&B continues to deliver at times the best writing and acting possible although OLTL has been the soap of the year hands down.

The red-headed stepchild has emerged out of AMC and GH's shadow and that's good for ABC b/c they need a strong middleman.

Believe when I say this, but if OLTL keeps up their good writing they'll be hitting a 2.4 or 2.5 on average at some point next year unless DTV has a huge effect on the soaps.

I'm enjoying DOOL on most days so it should be able to stabilize some.

GL is getting better, but the damn production format is hurting them big time just like AMC since 2006. If GL had the old format they would be getting ATWT type ratings.

I see the week of December 1-5, 2008 as a pretty big weak b/c the soaps need to be writing sweeps style year round now as they need to learn how to keep their audience in these weaker months like December.

I am enjoing The Young and the Restless too much for the first time in years, i am hooked on Kay/Marge s/l and Ashley's return. Watching on a daily basis now.
All My Children is good fun, GH too, I watch these two when i have some extra time on my hands, not always. Wish i could have SoapNet
I am VERY dissapointed with ATWT (my fav. soap for the past 2 years), Martha (old Lily) is unreplaceable. I hardly watch now, too bad. Also the new replacements (Craig and the other guy, don't do it for me.

I haven't watched GL in more than a year, that soap is very depressing to me. I am not coming back.

The production of the show is looking better and better... Wednesday's episode actually looked like they were shot on sets.

From your keyboard to God's ear! OLTL is awesome, and proof that quality does not equal ratings.

Judging from the fact that no one has posted the ABC message from Spinville a.k.a. press release, I'm guessing the ratings won't be out until tomorrow or Monday.

Y&R will probably do a 3.6

OLTL does deserve a 2.5 rating at this point.

I have a feeling GH will probably be at 2.2
and OLTL and AMC will be down to a 2.0 and 1.9 .

Hope I am wrong.

It is just gonna suck. I can feel it. I have not seen OLTL hold a gain like they have for the last 3 weeks. So I am just waiting for the drop back to the 1.9 or 2.0

I will be livid if OLTL falls as low as 1.9.

I am figuring AMC will get the 1.9 and OLTL will get the 2.0.

Or watch it will be one of those idiotic weeks where there is a 4 way tie.

Blah.

Y&R and OLTL are the only shows I am really pulling for at this point.

I hope God makes it happen. LOL!

You're right about about quality not equaling ratings, but I feel the best ingredient to succeed in that area is to have consistently good writing. Sometimes it takes over a year for people to pick on good writing. As long as OLTL continues their great quality their going to see it in their ratings big time. OLTL has already shown growth off their shows year to year in the ratings so they have something to go with.

The big thing we all need to start looking at since its right around the corner two months from now is the DTV switch. About 5-10% of the country is still not ready for the switch so that's going to hurt soaps very hard as my guess is that's about at least close to a million viewers for each soap.

I live in Canada, so I guess I am out of the loop with what you are referring to...the DTV switch. What is that all about and what do you speculate will happen to soap ratings because of it?

In Canada we don't have to worry about that b/c that's an American law that forced people using attenas to switch over to digital as the networks are switching their signals from analog to digital. They have until February 17, 2009 to get a digital converter box, which replaces the attenas or they can use cable/satellite boxes or they will be receiving any channels or TV at all past that date.

I live in Canada myself, but the studio I go to receives American channels so I watch the soaps on CBS, ABC, and NBC or SoapNet instead of CTV, CBC, Global or other Canadian networks.

If those people don't get converters in time for February then soaps are going to be affected b/c a large amount of those viewers that don't have cable watch soaps during the day so its pretty scary right now once February rolls around.

For those of you that don't know, February sweeps has been moved to March b/c of the switch to DTV.

Wow, that is interesting! So, ratings for ALL shows, not just soaps, could collapse on February 18, 2009? Is that what this means? YIKES?

TMOTV, I live in Edmonton, and we can't get Soapnet here. Do you mind if I ask you what cable company you subscribe to that allows you to get Soapnet? Thanks! smile.gif

In fasirness to the us government, they gave any household thast appled, two coupons worth 40 dollars each towards the purchase of the converters, so must everybody will be fine. If you have cable you won't need one.

As for Canada, you guys are chasnging I think in Auguset of 2010. We are way behind the europeans and mowt of Latin america.

From what I remember reading when the US switch was announced, that's incorrect. Canada isn't changing until 2014.

The whole world has to eventually switch to digital going into the next decade. The United States is one of the first countries to actually do it first. Some of the other countries will do it by regions and cities unlike the US, which is doing it nationally. Some countries have already done it in certain parts.

In Canada the switch will be made on Wednesday August 31, 2011.

If you live in Australia the switch is in 2009 for metro areas and 2013 for the regions and UK is in 2012, but the situation is different b/c they have to make the switch way before the Summer Olympic Games in 2012 since the country is the host for the games that year.

All shows will be affected on over-the-air stations, which include all 8 soaps since they air on the over-the-air networks. It is very scary b/c soaps may lose those viewers permanently.

Most of Canada can't get SoapNet right now, but hopefully Canada does. I would suggest calling your cable company and asking them if its possible to get SoapNet in the future. The problem is SoapNet has not expanded their reach outside of America just yet.

I live in Toronto and the cable company I have is Rogers at home so I go to the studio to watch TV there, but in the studio they use a special satellite dish that can receive American lineups through Detroit and from there satellite companies like Dish Network to get almost every affiliate channel in the country. That's how I'm able to watch ABC, CBS, and NBC up here.
