You mean Irene, Robert and Till?

Yeah, it's indeed a bit awkward seeing Irene and Robert holding on to each other in the foreground and then Irene's middle-aged son lurking in the background

I also don't know why some characters are always shown in both versions while some others are only in one version and hardly noticeable (for example Easy and Tobias).

In other news:

  • Thaddäus Meilinger has joined the cast of GZSZ in the new contract role of Felix Lehmann. Felix is Chris's (Eric Stehfest) brother. Working as a banker, he is the complete opposite of his free-spirited brother. Meilinger first airs on August 16, 2016.
  • Looks like Sascha Pederiva is heading back to GZSZ. For two episodes in 2012, he portrayed a backpacker named Roberto who had a one-night-stand with Emily (Anne Menden). A few weeks later, Emily found out that she was pregnant with Roberto's child. She gave birth to her daughter Kate in the summer of 2013. Kate was mostly raised by Emily and her new husband Tayfun. The latter departs the show in August. Shortly after, Emily is confronted with Roberto's return... Pederiva had a recurring role on UU in 2010 and portrayed the contract role of Sascha Vukovic on VL from 2013 to 2015.

Some background info on Till, Ute and Eva:
When the show debuted in November 1994, Till was 16 years old and went to high school. He was the middle son of Wolfgang and Irene Weigel, younger brother of Chris Weigel, older brother of Anna Weigel, and generally known to be a trouble-maker. In January 1995, Till and Ute Kiefer crossed paths for the very first time. Originally a recurring character, Ute quickly became best friends with Till's cousin Antonia Schwarz. Ute secretly fell in love with Till but they never became a couple. In December 1996, Till left for New York while Ute stayed in Cologne. Now a contract role and appearing on the opening credits, Ute became an integral part of the show. In October 2000, Till (now played by Ben Ruedinger) returned to town. He and Ute reunited on friendly terms, but their storylines rarely crossed until 2002.

Till began sharing an apartment with Meike Wagner, his best friend Björn Winter, and Meike's sister Eva (who were all introduced as new residents in December 2000, February 2001 and April 2001, respectively). Till and Eva had a short-lived affair, while Meike was secretly in love with Till. Later, Meike and Björn embarked on a relationship, which turned into a threesome when Till discovered his feelings for Meike. Meike left town in May 2002. Meanwhile, Eva had an affair with married man Stefan Kramer. Ute and Till grew closer and started having an affair which resulted in Ute becoming pregnant. A bit later, Till was diagnosed with leukemia. In this difficult situation, Ute and Till got married in Ireland in January 2003, and after Till was completely cured, Ute gave birth to their son Conor. They were happily married for five consecutive years,

Meanwhile, Eva was mostly involved in storylines that dealt with her becoming a star lawyer. She had a relationship with Björn, but eventually moved to a different city in August 2006. In October 2008, Eva returned to town permanently. When Till briefly thought that he wasn't Conor's father, he slept with Eva, which resulted in Ute wanting a divorce. In November 2009, Till and Eva got married - the same day that Till's father Wolfgang died of a heart attack. Ute found a new love in Henning Fink, whom she married in 2010. They stayed together until April 2016. Eva and Ute initially hated each other, but have become best friends in recent years.

Some casting news:

  • Tayfun Baydar departed GZSZ in yesterday's episode after being on contract for 7 1/2 years. He first aired as Turkish store owner Tayfun Badak in December 2008. First in love with the late Verena Koch, then married to Kazakh maid Dascha Petrova, Tayfun married Emily Höfer in 2014. Together, they raised Emily's daughter Kate and even reconciled after Emily had had an affair with villain David Brenner. In 2016, Tayfun was diagnosed with a brain tumor. During surgery, some important nerves were severed, so he was unable to have feelings anymore. Knowing that he couldn't give Emily the love she needs, Tayfun secretly decided to leave his family and departed Berlin.
  • Joana Schümer has joined the cast of GZSZ in the new role of Rosa Lehmann, Chris and Felix's mother. Her first airdate is August 4th, 2016. Described to be a powerful business woman, Rosa comes to Berlin to reconcile with Chris whom she hasn't seen in years. Apparently, she is unsure about her sexuality and might be bisexual. Could Rosa be a new love interest for Anni (Linda Marlen Runge)?
  • Merlin Leonhardt returns to GZSZ as Till "Bommel" Kuhn on August 24th, 2016. After starting out as recurring in August 2012, Leonhardt was placed on contract in January 2014, but departed the show in July 2014 when Bommel broke up with Katrin (Ulrike Frank). His return is supposed to be short-term.
  • Vincent Krüger departs GZSZ on September 7, 2016 after being on contract for 5 1/2 years. Krüger first appeared as troubled teenager Vince Köpke in February 2011. Shortly after his arrival, Vince turned out to be Leon's (Daniel Fehlow) illegitimate son. At first, he was in a relationship with Lilly Seefeld and helped her fight her bulimia. Since 2015, Vince has been in a relationship with Sunny Richter. The two are supposed to get married, but Vince – now a successful cook – has turned to drugs...
  • After being on contract for less than one year, Rona Özkan leaves GZSZ on September 14, 2016. She portrayed Selma Özgül, Ayla's (Nadine Menz) naive teenage cousin who experienced her first love with Jonas Seefeld (Felix van Deventer). Unwilling to have sex, she drives Jonas into the arms of another woman.
  • Tanja Szewczenko has apparently extended her stay on AWZ as she is now included in the show's opening sequence. After a 7-year break, the show brought her character Diana Sommer back this past April. On the opening credits, Szewczenko is now seen next to her nemesis Jenny Steinkamp (Kaja Schmidt-Tychsen) – in the spot that was previously taken by Carsten Clemens (Veit Hartmann). Clemens was quietly dropped from the show and made his exit on May 23rd, 2016.

News of Baydar's exit already surfaced back in January 2016 (I guess he wanted to leave at an earlier point, but the network probably convinced him to stay until the summer). He said he was tired of the "daily routine" of working on a soap opera.

The story itself was actually well-received by the audience and it gave Emily's portrayer Anne Menden quite a few powerful scenes. I always had my problem with Baydar as an actor, because although very likeable, most of the time he was wooden and stiff. In the context of this storyline, however, it actually worked well.

RTL has released promotional material for the upcoming 2016/2017 television season. As expected, GZSZ, AWZ and UU were renewed for another year.

Here's my translation of the press releases:

Unter uns
(weekdays 5.30 p.m.)

For 22 years, "Unter uns" has been a staple on RTL's afternoon schedule. Always young, always fresh, always different: Love and schemes, family drama and fortune affect the daily happenings at the apartment building Schillerallee 10 in Cologne where singles, single parents, flat sharing communities, patchwork and traditional families all live under the same roof. Doesn't matter if it's at the Weigel bakery, at the "Schiller" bar, at the gym "Turnhalle Deluxe" or on the recently opened roof garden - everywhere people argue, laugh, cry, make love or celebrate. The most important thing about the house community is solidarity between all residents - even in times of crisis. And this is what will happen this fall:

Ute Fink (Isabell Hertel) has sex with her ex-husband Till Weigel (Ben Ruedinger) which leads to Eva (Claudelle Deckert), Till's current wife, breaking up their friendship. Ute has a pregnancy scare, but a quick pregnancy test turns out to be negative. While Ute tries to rebuild her life and Till reconciles with Eva, the next drama cooks up: Ute thinks that her cancer has returned. However, Ute is pregnant after all - and Till is the father! Eva refuses to believe so and wants Till to choose either her or the baby. Ute on the other hand has to deal with becoming a mother at her age and in her medical condition. In addition, her feelings for Till have apparently rekindled...

Following her father Rolf's tragic death, Fiona Jäger (Olivia Burkhart) has a hard time living at Schillerallee. Benedikt Huber (Jens Hajek) has stolen all of her money, and when she and Ringo Beckmann (Timothy Boldt) try to get the money back, they are videotaped. Benedikt manipulates Fiona into sleeping with his business partner Paffrath so that he can blackmail him afterwards. However, Benedikt's plan backfires when Paffrath dies while in bed with Fiona. This is the final straw for Fiona: She snaps, has heated arguments with everyone and wants to destroy Benedikt. Then one night, great-grandma Roswitha Küpper (Andrea Brix) finds Fiona's corpse in the backyard! When the other residents arrive on the scene, they only find a lot of blood, but no corpse. Now everyone is suspected of having killed Fiona and having hid her body...

Elli Schneider (Nora Koppen) is looking forward to a visit from her cousin Katharina. She wants her friends to be kind to her as Katharina has always been overweight, shy and generally a plain Jane. But when Katharina eventually shows up, she is a complete different person: Not only is she thin and attractive, she has also changed her whole lifestyle and wants to be called "Kay-C". Her only goal is to become famous. Elli and her friends have a hard time coping with the diva...

Unter uns stars Petra Blossey as Irene Weigel (original cast member), Stefan Bockelmann as Malte Winter (2001-), Timothy Boldt as Ringo Beckmann (2012-), Olivia Burkhart as Fiona Jäger (2015-), Claudelle Deckert as Eva Wagner Weigel (2001-2006; 2008-), Amrei Haardt as Jule Kasper (2015-), Jens Hajek as Benedikt Huber (2016-), Benjamin Heinrich as Benno "Bambi" Hirschberger (2013-), Isabell Hertel as Ute Kiefer Kern Weigel Fink (1995-), Tabea Heynig as Britta Schönfeld (2010-), Nora Koppen as Elli Schneider (2015-), Aaron Koszuta as Valentin Huber (2016-), Ines Kurenbach as Caro Kasper (2014-), Luca Maric as Robert Küpper (2015-), Kristin Meyer as Andrea Huber (2016-), Patrick Müller as Tobias Lassner (2006-), Kai Noll as Rufus Sturm (2003-), Ben Ruedinger as Till Weigel #2 (2000-), Valea Scalabrino as Sina Uhland Hirschberger (2010-), Lars Steinhöfel as Ingo "Easy" Winter (2005-), Milos Vukovic as Paco Weigel (2000-) with recurring stars Ramon Ademes as Roger Schmitz (2013-), Andrea Brix as Roswitha Küpper (2015-) and Cronis Karakassidis as Nikos Karadimas (2014-)

Alles was zählt
(weekdays 7.05 p.m.)

Sports, big emotions and unbelievable schemes are the main topics of the Steinkamp family and their business "Steinkamp Sport & Wellness" - and their mantra is: Live your dream! From September 5th to 9th, 2016, RTL celebrates 10 years of Alles was zählt with a big anniversary week.

Since rebuilding their own squad, the Steinkamps want to return to the top of the figure skating world. Thus, it is inevitable that both the coaches and the figure skaters try to crush their competition with various schemes. Before or after practice, the characters meet in the pub "No.7" or at the food truck "Pommes-Schranke".

Vanessa (Julia Augustin) and Christoph (Lars Korten) learn that their unborn baby has a rare heart disease. They go through a long time of hoping and worrying whether their baby's medical condition is really as fatal as the test results showed. Vanessa and Christoph face their destiny with love, fighting spirit and their unique kind of humor.

Simone (Tatjana Clasing) and Richard (Silvan-Pierre Leirich) want to support their daughter Vanessa, but they have to deal with their own problems: One the one hand, they need to pull together a breath-taking gala to win the hosting rights for the next European Championship, on the other hand they have to keep an eye on their other daughter Jenny (Kaja Schmidt-Tychsen). The latter is full of hate when she learns that her arch-nemesis Diana Sommer (Tanja Szewczenko), the former "muck tart", is about to become the Steinkamp's ambassador during the European Championship and that Diana's protege Marie Schmidt (Cheyenne Pahde) has received a wildcard for the tournament. By no means will Jenny let this happen...

There's also danger lurking from another side: A shady acquaintance of Simone's half sister Carmen (Heike Warmuth) arrives in Essen and demands money from Carmen. When he finds out that Carmen is related to wealthy Steinkamps, he sniffs a big chance. While the huge gala is taking place, Simone is kidnapped by the shady guy. All attempts to buy her free fail. To save his wife's life, Richard gets himself into a life-threatening situation...

Ingo (André Dietz) realizes that he's reciprocating Diana's feelings after telling himself for weeks that she's just an affair. However, his plan to confess his feelings to Diana fails when he receives divorce papers from his wife Bea who left him earlier this year without an explanation. Once again, Ingo is faced with the frustration that Bea's sudden disappearance caused him. Now he demands answers and begins to search for Bea. Not only does he risk his job, his relationship to his sister Marie and his friendships in the process, he also pushes Diana away...

Alles was zählt stars Julia Augustin as Vanessa Steinkamp Lukowski (2006-2009; 2010-2012; 2013; 2014-), Julian Bayer as Leo Brück (2015-), Franziska Benz as Michelle Bauer (2016-), Daniel Brockhaus as Dr. Thomas Brück (2015-), Tatjana Clasing as Simone Steinkamp (original cast member), André Dietz as Ingo Zadek (2007-; recurring previously), Igor Dolgatschew as Deniz Öztürk (2007-), Sam Eisenstein as Marian Öztürk (2007-, recurring previously), Juliette Greco as Lena Bergmann von Altenburg Öztürk #1/#3 (2007-), Christina Klein as Iva Lukowski (2014-), Lars Korten as Christoph Lukowski (2015-), Silvan-Pierre Leirich as Richard Steinkamp (original cast member), Cheyenne Pahde as Marie Schmidt #2 (2016-), Jörg Rohde as Ben Steinkamp #2 (2009-), Kaja Schmidt-Tychsen as Jenny Steinkamp #4 (2011-), Heike Warmuth as Carmen Bauer (2016-) with recurring stars Ingeborg Brings as Frau Renate Scholz (2006-) and Madlen Kaniuth as Brigitte Schnell (2006-)

Michael Jassin as Tobi Märtz (2015-) is no longer listed among the cast. Strangely enough, Tanja Szewczenko is not listed, either.

Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten
(weekdays 7.40 p.m.)

GZSZ is not only 4 letters, it is also an abbreviation for a phenomenon. The series is iconic, its actors are media darlings, its fans are faithful, and in the ratings department the show plays in its own league. GZSZ takes place in a lively Berlin neighborhood with bars, clubs, stores and offices - and of course with the various apartments of the characters. Even though the neighborhood is fictional, the influence of real-life incidents is ever-present. Doesn't matter if it's mobbing, bulimia or drug abuse - all of these topics are depicted just as much as the refugee crisis in Europe. GZSZ also stands for change and variety: New actors and characters are the driving force behind GZSZ's success. The size and strength of the show's unique ensemble stays unchanged, though.

The upcoming months will be characterized by romance and emotions: Following Vince (Vincent Krüger) and Sunny's (Valentina Pahde) non-wedding, Chris (Eric Stehfest) takes care of the sad bride and develops strong feelings for her. Because of that, he gets himself into a conflict with his best friend Vince who is about to emigrate to the United States. Chris decides to keep his feelings to himself. Out of the blue, Chris's estranged brother Felix (Thaddäus Meilinger) arrives in Berlin and falls head over heels in love with Sunny. The two have to work together when the Lehmann Bank, which is led by Chris's and Felix's mother Rosa (Joana Schümer), has to make business with KFI (Katrin Flemming Immobilien). Sunny doesn't notice that both brothers are in love with her and tries to reconcile them with each other. Which brother will Sunny eventually choose?

With the help of Jo Gerner (Wolfgang Bahro), Katrin Flemming (Ulrike Frank) was able to let the drama surrounding Frederic's death behind her. Now Katrin and Jo are closer than never before which leads to Jo proposing to Katrin (Comment: The two were married before). He wants them and their daughter Johanna to be a real family. Because she doesn't love Jo, Katrin hesitates to agree to a marriage of convenience. One day, Katrin has a run-in with a mailman who turns out to be her former lover Bommel (Merlin Leonhardt). At a single blow, Katrin's feelings for him are back. However, Bommel has apparently let the past behind him and now has a new girlfriend. A hurt Katrin reconsiders Jo's marriage offer...

Philip Höfer (Jörn Schlönvoigt) celebrates his doctor's degree and spends the night partying with Tuner (Thomas Drechsel). The next morning, Philip notices that his identity cards and his bank cards were stolen. The perpetrator assumes Philip's identity, spends a lot of money on his behalf and even turns to illegal actions. When somebody buys drugs with his doctor's ID, Philip desperately tries to prove his innocence...

Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten stars Mustafa Alin as Mesut Yildiz (2014-; recurring previously), Wolfgang Bahro as Dr. Jo Gerner (1993-), Philipp Christopher as David Brenner (2014-), Felix van Deventer as Jonas Seefeld (2014-), Thomas Drechsel as Max "Tuner" Krüger (2010-; recurring previously), Daniel Fehlow as Leon Moreno (1996-1999; 2001-), Ulrike Frank as Katrin Flemming Gerner (2004-; recurring previously), Elena Garcia Gerlach as Elena Castillo Gundlach (2014-; recurring previously), Felix von Jascheroff as John Bachmann (2001-2014; 2015-), Clemens Löhr as Alexander Cöster #2 (2009-), Thaddäus Meilinger as Felix Lehmann (2016-), Anne Menden as Emily Höfer Badak (2004-), Nadine Menz as Ayla Özgül Höfer #2 (2014-), Valentina Pahde as Sunny Richter (2015-), Eva Mona Rodekirchen as Maren Seefeld (2010-), Linda Marlen Runge as Anni Brehme (2013-), Jörn Schlönvoigt as Dr. Philip Höfer (2004-), Iris Mareike Steen as Lilly Seefeld (2010-), Eric Stehfest as Chris Lehmann (2014-), Janina Uhse as Jasmin Nowak Flemming LeRoy (2008-) and Lea Marlen Woitack as Sophie Lindh (2014-)

Vincent Krüger as Vince Köpke (2011-2016) and Rona Özkan as Selma Özgül (2015-2016) are no listed among the cast. Both exits have already been confirmed. Merlin Leonhardt as Till "Bommel" Kuhn and Joana Schümer as Rosa Lehmann are not listed, either, which means they will only appear for a limited time.

Two former soap actors are contestants on the 4th season of Celebrity Big Brother Germany: Isa Jank and Stephen Dürr.
Jank (64) is best known for her portrayal of villain Countess Clarissa von Anstetten on "Verbotene Liebe", a role she played from 1995 to 2001 and again from 2011 to 2013. From 2005 to 2008, she played Annabelle von Gravenberg, a character very similar to Clarissa, on the telenovela "Wege zum Glück".
Dürr (42) was an original cast member on "Unter uns" where he portrayed Till Weigel from 1994 to 1996. He was the soap's first major teen heartthrob. He later moved on to primetime, but returned to soaps in 2006 as an original cast member on "Alles was zählt". There, he played figure skating coach Mike Hartwig until 2009 when his character was killed off.

Some casting news:

  • Pauline Angert has joined the cast of Unter uns in the new contract role Katharina "Kay-C" Schneider. Kay-C is Elli's (Nora Koppen) cousin. Once overweight and a "Plain Jane", Kay-C has morphed into a sexy young woman who is desperate for fame. Angert's first airdate is September 5th, 2016.

  • Also on Unter uns, Olivia Burkhart makes her final appearance as Fiona Jäger on October 4th, 2016. After faking her own death, Fiona departs town. Burkhart joined the show in April 2015. The character was introduced as Fiona Nowak, but later turned out to be Rolf's (Stefan Franz) long-lost daughter. Rolf committed suicide a few weeks ago.
  • Apparently, Amrei Haardt is also out on Unter uns. She joined the cast as Jule Kasper in January 2015 and departs in late October 2016. Unter uns clearly has no luck with their younger actresses...
  • On Alles was zählt, Daniel Buder has joined the cast as Vincent Thalbach. Vincent is Michelle's (Franziska Benz) biological father who used to beat up Michelle's mother Carmen (Heike Warmuth) back in the day. Now, Vincent acts as if he's a changed man, but of course he has an agenda. Buder is best known for his work on the telenovela "Sturm der Liebe" where he played the male villain during the show's 9th cycle.

That woman is Fiona Jäger / Fischer / Nowak, the daughter of psychopath Rolf Jäger.

I quote myself from an older post:

  • Olivia Burkhart's (Fiona) final airdate on UU is October 14th, 2016. Burkhart joined the cast in April 2015.
  • Amrei Haardt's (Jule Kasper) final airdate on UU is October 21th, 2016. Jule departs for South Africa. Haardt joined the cast in January 2015.
  • Also on UU, Joy Lee Juana Abiola Müller (Micki Fink Lassner) returns from her maternity leave on October 24, 2016. She was last seen in July 2015. It is unclear if her return is only short-term or if she stays permanently. Abiola Möller had recently been removed from the show's opening.
  • Michael Jassin's (Tobi Märtz) final airdate on AWZ is October 26th, 2016. Jassin first appeared as Tobi in two episodes in February 2015. In July 2015, he was brought back as a contract role. Even though Tobi, the typical "nice guy" and underdog, is a popular character, the writers neglected him and hardly gave him any storyline. Tobi had secretly been in love with Marie (Judith Neumann / Cheyenne Pahde) for about a year. They finally got together two weeks ago. However, Tobi learns that his ex-girlfriend Kerstin is expecting his child. Tobi grew up without a father himself, so he decides to break up with Marie and moves to Austria to be there for his child.
  • Tobi will be replaced by a new character: Bela Klentze has joined the cast as Ronny Bergmann, Lena's (Juliette Greco) cousin. His first airdate is November 21st, 2016. Klentze is best-known for his work on UU where he played Bela Hoffmann on contract from January 2011 to October 2013.
  • Francisco Medina (Maximilian von Altenburg) returns to AWZ in January 2017. Medina was on contract from October 2007 to October 2013 until Maximilian was buried alive by his arch nemesis Rafael Suarez. Shortly after his daughter Letizia von Altenburg had been brutally murdered by Suarez, Maximilian resurfaced in November 2014. In April 2015, Maximilian was sent to prison for murdering Jenny's husband Erik - although Jenny's father Richard Steinkamp was the real culprit. Medina starts filming in November 2016 and will reportedly stay for about 4 months.

But not that much. She was born in 2004 and was supposed to be 16 or so when she returned in 2015. The actress is 19 years old.

That happened in September 2012. Rolf had kidnapped his former lover Britta and locked her up in a cellar. However, Britta was able to escape. During the struggle, Rolf was shot in the arm. Britta took care of Rolf and locked him up herself. Rebecca, a former police officer and security guard, became suspicious of Britta's behavior (Rolf had threatened Rebecca and her family before) and investigated the matter. Eventually, she found the cellar. In the meantime, Rolf had freed himself. Thinking that Rebecca was Britta, he smacked her down. Rebecca was dead right away. While Rolf fled the country, Britta found Rebecca's corpse, panicked, and brought it to a nearby park. The next day, Rebecca's corpse was found by Rebecca's adoptive daughter Lili.

Verbotene Liebe had some of the best death scenes, especially this one, when Tim found Cleo dead in her bath tub. She was forced to kill herself by Tanja.
