Home and Away: Discussion Thread

not since the awful pre-olympic episodes. Home and Away has really fallen apart.

They did at one point have a very strong younger cast, with people that could actually act. The already mentioned Chris Egan, Bec Hewitt, Beau Brady, Tammin Sursok, Ben Unwin. Then we had the people who played Tom, Vinnie (True Blood's Jason Stackhouse), Shauna, Tasha, Robbie, Lucas, Kit, Scott, Drew, Rocco and Cassie who were also great. And the amazing Kimberley Cooper and her portryal of bad girl with the tortured soul, Gypsy Nash. The only young people worth watching were Belle and Aiden.

The show just hasnt been good since 2006.

I totally forgot about this thread. lol

Thanks for the clip, Drew. I'll have to take a look at it.

This show is alright I guess... Its kinda boring sometimes but they are storylines that makes you tune in. Like this Thursday, at the end, Martha went to get something and we saw when she opened her hands that they were hair on them. Her hair is falling off. :( I feel so bad for her.

Then on Friday, the doctor thought maybe this guy was beating his son and that is why she saw bruises on him. She later found out the kids has bone cancer.

Its getting good.

The one thing I cant get over lately is the cheesiness of the show and its stories. I guess its the best they can do, being forced to be rated G almost every day, only getting X number of PG episodes a year, the show's basically a tween soap. They seemed to handle this better in the past, characters and stories packed more of a punch.

yea they're pretty agressive with their censorship over there. Australia's one of the big reasons why alot of the 60s episodes of Doctor Who are available today - recovering episodes and clips from their censorship board.

I tried watching again a few weeks back and I found it utterly impossible. I didn't recognize half of the cast, and I just gave up.

Looks like H&A may do a lesiban storyline with Charlie and Joey

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,2...5006022,00.html

HOME and Away is set to divide audiences when it introduces a lesbian romance at the end of this month. IS THIS TOO RISQUE FOR FAMILY VIEWING?

The Channel 7 soapie has tough policewoman Charlie Buckton falling in love with Joey Collins, played by Kate Bell, who works on a trawler.

They share a dance and a kiss, and over the following five weeks their relationship blossoms into love.

IS THIS TOO RISQUE FOR FAMILY VIEWING? VOTE IN OUR POLL BOX BELOW.

Conservative family groups have reacted angrily to the plot in the PG-rated show, which boasts a large child and teen fan base.

"They (Home and Away) continue to market to kids and they continue to develop quite sexualised plot lines," Pro-Family Perspectives director Angela Conway said.

"The plot lines that young kids and teenagers should be presented with should be about really authentic relationships that are not just sexualised."

Actor Esther Anderson, who plays Charlie Buckton, talked to gay friends in the lead-up to filming.

Anderson said kissing another girl "wasn't that big a deal", and young viewers would accept the scenes.

"You learn pretty much everything at school," she said. "I don't think it's like I'm lifting the lid on something they don't already know about.

"To me there's no difference - love's love. The fact that your partner's the same sex is no different. You just want to be loved."

In 2004, Channel 10 soapie Neighbours was attacked by talkback callers and conservative groups when it featured a lesbian kiss between schoolgirls Lana Crawford (Bridget Neval) and Sky Mangel (Stephanie McIntosh).

Mark McCraith, of media communications company MindShare, said some advertisers would be nervous with the lesbian storyline.

"It depends on how it is handled. If it is educational, that's fine," he said.

"If it's handled in a way that is exploitative or sensationalised, some advertisers will be wary, especially those aiming at families and mothers."

Psychologist Dr Janet Hall has praised the lesbian love plot, saying it allows families to discuss the topic.

"Young audiences are basically aware of the whole gay thing anyway. All it's doing is reflecting society," she said.

"It sounds like it is being treated with sensitivity, and this is great for all."

Shaking my head.

So it is ok for shows to have teenage pregnancie's, kid's hooked on drugs and selling them, alcoholism and not cause a stir, but the moment a gay storyline is put on the table then moral groups are up in arms.

Thanks for telling me about this storyline. I haven't watch H&A in years, but I'll definitely be watching this storyline. Charlie is pretty hot! And Joey's not bad either, so yeah, I'm down with this. How old are Charlie and Joey?

Part 1:

Part 2:

SnC, I shake my head to at the uproar. I really dislike "parent/conservative" groups.

Woah, I just read that Jack's dead. What? :o Poor Martha. :( I gotta find those episodes now.

Wait till you see Tony after he finds out that Angelo was the one that shot Jack

I watch H&A on and off, hate that Master Chef is on at the same time and since I can only watch one channel as my cable goes through my VCR I can't tape one and watch the other.

Here are some things that you may or may not have already seen so I have put them in spoiler tags.

The Doc, can't remember her name at the moment thinks that Tony maybe having an affair with someone named Belinda. Me I think that he is talking and seeing Lucas who is using Belinda's cell phone.

Melody goes down to Melbourne (my home town), Miles and Charlie follow her down

Martha is meant to be going on a boat and goes missing this is after Angelo doesn't get charged with shooting Jack but I didn't see why. This will be her out, but I heard that she would be leaving the Bay for the lights of NYC

Nicole surprises Geoff with a getaway and they return to the island where they first made love. But there is some else there and he could be a killer.

Now I did see a bit yesterday and the guy did mention something about killing people and that he could still see the faces, which makes me think that maybe it was in some sort of war.

An update on the Charlie/Joey "controversy"

Home & Away lesbian kiss between actresses Esther Anderson and Katie Bell cut by Seven

CHANNEL 7 has censored a lesbian kissing scene in its popular family soapie Home and Away after a viewer backlash.

Since the lesbian story line began two weeks ago, 100,000 viewers have turned off and complaints have been flooding in. The now-muted kiss will air on Tuesday night.

The decision was taken to play down the scene after complaints from conservative lobby groups in media reports were followed by complaints from viewers, The Australian reports.

"They (Home and Away) continue to market to kids and they continue to develop quite sexualised plot lines," Pro-Family Perspectives director Angela Conway said earlier this month.

"The plot lines that young kids and teenagers should be presented with should be about really authentic relationships that are not just sexualised."

Producers were forced to cut some of the more intimate close-up images of policewoman Charlie Buckton and deckhand Joey Collins sharing a passionate kiss after dancing together on a boat.

The original scene, played by actors Esther Anderson and Katie Bell, was no more intimate than any kiss shared by a heterosexual couple, sources said.

Some mothers contacted the network to say they didn't want their children exposed to same-sex relationships in a family show. Home and Away is screened at 7pm and is rated PG.

The show is popular internationally, especially with younger viewers, and attracts an Australian audience of more than one million every week night.

Anderson had said she had no problem with the scene.

"You learn pretty much everything at school," she said. "I don't think it's like I'm lifting the lid on something they don't already know about.

"To me there's no difference - love's love. The fact that your partner's the same sex is no different. You just want to be loved."

But... Back to the Bay, are now reporting that the kiss won't be cut... Roll on Tuesday!
