ABC suds great Finola Hughes, aka Anna Devane on General Hospital, has been temporarily poached by CBS' The Young and the Restless. Starting June 19, the beauty-licious Brit will play Zara, the flirty, opportunistic mother of Sabrina (Raya Meddine). The character will arrive in Genoa City - uninvited, natch - just in time for her daughter's wedding to mega-mogul Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). "Expect Fireworks," Hughes says. "Zara is quite the troublemaker and has a very complicated relationship with Sabrina. She deserted her daughter for years, leaving her in boarding schools while she flitted off to live her own life. Now she's back and thrilled that Sabrina is marrying a billionaire." The hyperactive Hughes, who also hosts Style's How Do I Look?, says her run on Y&R is strictly limited - she's due back on GH set in June.

I'll admit it.

It sounds a little like Gloria in terms of the "opportunistic mother" thing.

But I'd rather see her on Y&R than that teenybopper stuff they make her play on GH.

It would have made way more sense if Finola was playing Sabria's older sister rather than her mother.

Finola is playing her MOTHER?! What an insult. I hope she's getting paid well.

Joan Collins would have been a better choice. What's more, she and Eric Braeden are only 8 years apart.

She seems a little young to be playing Sabrina's mother, doesnt she? If they wanted an ex-GHer with an accent for the role then Emma Samms would have been a far better choice.

Raye looks much older than she actually is, so this is weird. Sucks that we have another LML-esque short term character brought on from plot driven reasons to help prop a newbie.

This is GOOD news! She's not on contract with ABC... she could come back to do her short term GH bit, then tell ABC to pound sand and get a spot on Y/R. I'd be in heaven.

I sure hope she shoots some scenes with Vincent Irizarry... I loved them together on AMC.

I think she's too young to play Sabrina's mom, though. This being a soap though.... eventually most soap actors are too young to play parents to their own character's kids on soaps, due to SORAS. Still... Finola is 47 and Sabrina is mid to late thirites, to early forties (since she's older than Victoria and was a grad student when Victoria was an undergrad... no way is she in her twenties...she's older than Vikki).

Hell Cady played mom to Jacob Young's JR on AMC, and Cady is only like ten years older than Jacob........

Oh God no, couldn't they have found a better actress to play the role? I'm so tired of Finola Huges. And it pisses me off that Sabrina and Victor are probably going to get a big splashy wedding, while Nikki and David got squat. Sure I don't like the couple, but it's such a bias towards Eric Braeden's massive ego.

I wish someone would cast the sensational Fiona Hutchison already!
