In the run-up to these shitastic promos, one imagines the meeting over at ABC Daytime went something like this:

"Love in the Afternoon." What does that mean? Do you know anything about this?

*grunt* Never heard of it.

Oh! I know! I know!

Speak, woman.

Well, Brian, back when I was on multiple-Emmy-award wining
Santa Barbara©, ABC ran those promos called "Love in the Afternoon." They were meant to promote their Daytime line-up as being chock-full of romance, love and excitement!

Huh?

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

*wipes eyes* Oh, Jill, sometimes you really kill me with your outlandish stories. Hey, does Liza Minelli know you stole her entire look?

Uh. So. Can I go now?

Not so fast. The Board of Governors want us to start promoting "love" and "romance" on our shows. Can we utilize this "Love in the Afternoon" sh!t or something? Update it from the 1980s? I know how much you enjoy recycling, Bob.

"Love"? Sounds SO totally gay.

Gay = VERY hot right now! Look at ATWT.

We ALREADY covered gay issues on GH, Jill! I'm done with that SL.

Woah, now. Who said anything about gay? I'm talking Romance. With a capital "r"! That means Carly. Lulu. Jason!

Because nothing says romance quite like a brain-dead assassin threatening his ex-girlfriend.

Ex-ACT-ly!

Hmmmm. Assassin... You know, I'm thinking the only way to update these Love promos is to bring Death into the equation.

Go on.

Jason and Sonny are dedicated to a heroic cause: wiping out the scum of Port Charles. Even if it means they have to deal with death a lot. They can't help it!
That's the life they chose!
Keep talkin.

If their chicks don't like it, they just gonna have to
deal.

I'm not seeing the "Love" part yet.

See, that's how somebody like Liz can prove her
Love to Jason! By understanding that this is merely a lifestyle choice. And not something he does because he's a sociopathic mob enforcer. Y'know?
I'm thinking we could call it:
"Would You Die For Love?"
Death... Love... it's all in there, for sure. The kids are gonna eat this one up! Can we shoehorn Lulu/Logan, Sonny/Kate, Nikolas/Emily into these promos as well?

Sure. I can tweak the SLs so that Death and Destruction comes their way, too. That way it will all fit the marketing campaign and make perfect sense!
