  1. The soap, the telenovela, the continuing dramatic series...whatever you want to call it, has the power to reach people like few non-visual media can. This article describes a series that will air on an Arab TV broadcaster, where producers hope to show the horrific brutality of a terrorist group like ISIS. It looks quite intense but perhaps it will dissuade potentially vulnerable people from romanticization this group. Personally, such a group looks about as appealing as being roasted over fiery hot coals but I've read stories of people who somehow flocked to what looks like a hell-hole to me. This series sounds fascinating but a possibly a tough watch (though I once watched an entire 60 episode series that recounted the horrors of slavery in Colombia, La Esclava Blanca) Arab TV Series Dramatizes Life Under ISIS
  2. Years ago, We Love Soaps may have done a short profile on this show but I remember reading about it somewhere and wondering whether I'd ever be able to see it. I think there may have been a radio play that was actually the first soap opera with a Black cast before this but Bird of an Iron Feather had to be the first on TV. I meant to post this ages ago but somehow never got around to it. Interesting read. 'Bird of an Iron Feather' - Television's First Black Soap Opera That Was Too Hot for Television
  3. Since I mentioned I saw it and would read it...I figured I would do a post with the highlights... WHY ANOTHER WRITER CHANGE? Pretty much, the same thing Corday said in his other interviews...gut feeling, steering the ship, not feeling the stories, etc. RON'S WRITING Corday says he will bring the laughs, tears, and rootable couples. Couples mention: John/Marlena, Patch/Kayla, Hope/Rafe, Chabby. Also noted--Nicole/Brady/Eric/Chloe not sure if it meant together, but more will get done with them. As mentioned elsewhere, there is a murder mystery coming. It starts in June and ends in September. RC has restructured how it will go however. Corday wants to get away from the darkness of the writing. Expect Ron's vision to be clear two months into his run. ABOUT SHERI ANDERSON Corday thinks she has a strong female point of view and should be able to ground RC as well as all of her history with the show. TWEAKS There were some to a point. Then Corday goes into why they shoot the way they have been doing it which a good overview of can be found here: http://www.welovesoaps.net/2017/02/ken-corday-shooting-days-of-our-lives.html. I liked it since a lot of us here have discussed this all the time. I do believe this is the first interview where SOD directly asked him this. And I was surprised he answered. Definitely want to hear everyone's thought now that it's out in the open re:at this point, it's the only way DAYS stays on the air thus production model. OTHERS This interview was done pre-renewal so he talks about how he feels about the Megyn Kelly news. Corday feels the show in in good hands for the fall with RC. And hopes he now has a long term writer for the future like the soap opera writers of old who stayed on their shows for a long time. So...beginning of July to mid-Aug/Sept is Corday's estimate on feeling RC's writing kick in.
  4. Have the new TV Guide in hand and it said that... Quinn is going to make Steffy an offer she can't refuse...CEO of Forrester. get And as a result..Myra's claws come out!!! Not that she will be alone in trying to get the ladies out of the way...Ridge will be working on his plan to be CEO again...when he isn't busy trying to get married to Brooke again who he will be sleeping with very, very soon and proposing to some time after.
  5. So got the new SOD and found it interesting that May 9 is going to be the day where... DAYS: What happened with Aidan is revealed. GH: Jason's memories (with Kim McC appearance) happens. I read the Aidan reason and they explained well. Now the Jason thing...well... Thoughts on either...I'm a bit behind. PS. Lawrence Saint VIctor has an interview inside as well. Haven't read it yet so don't know if he was asked where he was on B&B...yet. will read for sure to see what he is up to.
  6. Well, now that it's over, how would you grade the November Sweeps of all the soaps? Or are you really thinking sleeps? Why? Why not?
  7. So...how did your soap do overall this year? A, B, C, D, Z???
  8. I've been reading/watching a few interviews and it seems like soap veterans often have difficulty finding jobs when their soaps are cancelled. Whilst, their young counterparts find roles on other soaps, primetime shows, plays and even movies. The older actors often end up jobless. Beverlee McKinsey's TV Guide interview was an interesting read (http://iriswheeler.tripod.com/tvguide19920811.html) It seemed like her time on soaps slightly affected her chances of getting work outside of the genre. "I don't want to do a soap again. The only thing I'd like to do is a sitcom. Of course, I don't even have an agent! You know what I'm saying? I've worked for so long in daytime with no plans of ever doing anything else. How do you get a sitcom without an agent? How do you get an agent when you haven't had one for 15 years? So, you see, I really have no plans. I just know that I don't want to do Guiding Light anymore. My friend [exec producer] John Conboy says I can get any agent I want, but I don't know that I can. I'm a big deal in daytime but nobody else gives a rat's hip about us soap people." Maurice Benard did an interview with Michael Fairman back in September and he had this to say: "We all know it’s tough, especially when you’ve been on a soap for as long as I have. In terms of trying to break out, nobody really cares about soaps. Within the soap world, it’s the greatest job in the world. But for me, it will be tough unless somebody gives me that break." This article is a great read ---> http://xfinity.comcast.net/blogs/tv/2012/08/21/stars-of-canceled-soaps-reinvent-themselves-in-daytime-primetime-theater-and-blogging/ SO, Can being a long-time soap actor be a burden? What do y'all think?
