I loved that house, especially that patio they had.

Dammit @Vee Damn you to hell! You're going to make me do an AMC2 rewatch. I miss naked AJ and the Jesse who looked at Zack and uttered the words, "What the [!@#$%^&*] are you talking about?" I miss Opal and Petey. And Jane. I miss Jane's coffee shop.

At least it wasn't the OLTL Coffee Shop - called "Coffee Shop!"

  2. It's Saturday night and I'm watching soap clips on YouTube. I refuse to be ashamed.

What did you end up watching? No shame unless you were watching material that was bad.

  3. Is anyone else seeing "Days Won" in their profile? What does that mean?

  4. It needs to be said, Blanche Devereaux is a lousy friend.

She did some decent things but on a day to day basis, she was awful. As I watch these episodes it's amazing how quickly she turns on the girls when it suits her purposes.

No doubt Blanche had good moments, but most of the time she was rude to the others. That's what made her funny, because some of her best lines are insults.

  5. I can't keep up with all the original programming on Netflix. It's basically become a TV/movie studio.

I know! I'm really just waiting for their Anne of Green Gables miniseries.

My Internet connection is too shaky to watch much, although I try to keep up with One Day at a Time. My parents love Grace and Frankie. Lately they mostly seem to be getting backlash for cookie cutter shows like Iron Fist and that show about high school powers or whatever. I guess they are finally falling out of favor with the critics who only care about feeling cool.

I still need to watch House of Cards period. I FINALLY started The West Wing (on Netflix, but not an original, I know), and am mainly interested in watching old movies and cool documentaries. I still need to watch Parks & Rec, too.

  6. S1 of Golden Girls is just a parade of random relatives. Blanche's sister, grandson, and niece, Rose's daughter and grand daughter, Dorothy's sister, etc...

    1. Khan

      Khan

I think that's because the writing staff were still learning about the four "girls" and how Bea, Betty, Rue and Estelle played off each other.  As time goes on, it seems they rely less on outsiders, including children and relatives, to generate stories.

    2. All My Shadows

      All My Shadows

I think it's great that they introduced all those characters early on. You really got to understand that these women had big families and long lives way before we joined their story in Miami. Having them interact with their children, grandchildren, siblings, etc. ultimately made them more than the archetypes most casual viewers remember.

  7. It's been a long week. I'm going to join Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia on the lanai for a few hours.

      Sophia: The lanai?

Don't forget the cheesecake. It should be okay since the bakery fired that gray haired baker.

  9. More and more I find that I quit TV shows I once loved simply because I've lost interest. It's one thing to leave a show because it pisses you off. IMO, it's sadder to quit because it bores you.

    1. ~bl~

      ~bl~

You aren't the only one this happens to, it is strange when that happens episodes adding up that you haven't seen and no interest to even binge view.

      DRW50

I tend to be the same. For all the masturbatory media hype of the "golden age of TV" or now "peak TV" (ugh I HATE that term), there sure are a lot of forgettable, disappointing pieces of pap on. And many shows I just end up walking away from through apathy, even shows I was once hooked on.

    3. I Am A Swede

      I Am A Swede

Same here. Off the top of my head, and with the reservation that I might have forgotten someone, there's only show in the past 20 years or so that I have stayed with from the first episode to the last, and that's Downton Abbey.

  10. Is there a way to collapse the right sidebar? We used to be able to do that.

  11. Hanging at work watching the finale of Empire even though I haven't watched a single episode this season. I didn't miss much.

WTF happened with "Empire"?  How and why did it fall off the radar so quickly?

They still got a problem with moving the story too fast.  I'm thinking they should have made it into a movie like that guy wanted to.

I avoid the sidebar, by leaving my browser on or starting somewhere else on the site, but it is rather annoying.

  13. It's nice to be back in Stars Hollow but...it makes me miss Pine Valley.

  14. Could we get rid of the recent posts in the sidebar and go back to recent threads?

  15. This column on the right keeps changing. Sometimes I see recent posts and other times status updates.

      This mess is ridiculous.

  16. Ari Zucker deserves a Daytime Emmy for her performance as "Woman not disgusted by Trump."

    1. Vee

      Vee

The full video is beyond harrowing. You can hear both men talking about not only Nancy O'Dell but Ari herself, then they get out and Bush orders her to hug them both. It's horrific. I hope Corday and NBC don't muzzle her, if she chooses to speak.

Even worse is Erin Burnett's story about another female friend also facing a "tic-tac incident" with Trump.

  17. One of my biggest pet-peeves as a tv viewer is scenes that show people drinking coffee from obviously empty cups. Is it really so hard to throw a few ounces of water in there for the sake of verisimilitude?

Hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it. It sounds empty, looks empty, and when the actors just let their hand move around erratically while holding the full cup of coffee with like two fingers, it drives me nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuts.

    3. DramatistDreamer

      DramatistDreamer

I was in a play where one of the characters was a servant and had to pour water from a pitcher. I don't remember whether any of us actually drank anything though, lol.

    4. Khan

      Khan

As a TV viewer, I dread seeing people walking around with coffee cups in their hands, staring at laptop screens, or having conversations onscreen via cellphones.  The first "offense" is a lazy attempt at being trendy; the other two are just anti-dramatic.

  18. Out of nowhere, this song from Knots Landing popped into my head.

  19. Watching S6 of Community.  It's a pretty good argument for how some shows should be allowed to die a natural death.

Is it on Yahoo!  Where are you watching it? I'd love to go back and view the entire series from Season 1 to 6.

  20. Enough with the reboots already. LA Law? #NoOneWasClamoring http://tvline.com/2016/08/01/l-a-law-reboot-fox-steven-bochco/

      DRW50

LA Law is a show that lived, breathed, and bled the late '80s and early '90s. There's absolutely no reason for it to be remade. None at all.

    3. marceline

      marceline

And really, how would a reboot be any different than any other legal drama? How would it be different than say, "The Good Wife?"

    4. ~bl~

      ~bl~

Maybe they want to have Jimmy Smits be the senior partner, and having him play Victor from LA Law would make sense. They could also have some of the children who were born on the show, be grown. Otherwise I agree with you it could be any other legal drama, that takes place in California.

  21. Okay Vee, you win. I'm about to start watching "Stranger Things."

  22. Since I'm stuck home for the week, I'm looking for something to binge watch. Thoughts on "Jane the Virgin?"

I don't know about Jane The Virgin (never seen it) but immediately when I saw your post I thought "Stranger Things" as well. Just started watching it late last night and plan to finish the rest within the next two days...LOL

    3. ~bl~

      ~bl~

It depends on how much time you have to watch Jane The Virgin is long over 40 episodes. There are some problematic things, but since it is a telenovela parody that's to be expected. Some characters are under written and mental illness is made into a joke, would be two of the problematic issues in the first season.

    4. DRW50

I haven't watched but one of my friends loved it first season. Haven't said much about the second. Have you ever watched Brooklyn 99?

  23. Dani Mathers is the worst kind of person and the fact that she's been so universally called out for what she did gives me hope for the future.

  24. I can't remember the last time I dreaded any event as much as I'm dreading the RNC convention.
