Ocean’s Crest

The waves were lapping the shores, the gulls were squawking, and the sun was shining.

Preparing for another long day at the resort, Jade was wiping down the counters at the Cabana bar. The beach club would be in for another long day of the wealthy and their children lounging by the pool, frolicking on the beach, and ordering drinks and snacks like there was no tomorrow. She could practically already smell the sunscreen.

“Today is supposed to be a scorcher,” Adrian informs her walking over.

Adrian fit the role of tall, dark and handsome to a t. Bulging muscles on tan skinned, hazel eyes, short hair and 8 pack abs, what else would you expect from a lifeguard? Those were features all the ladies who frequented the beach club drooled over. And the criteria the Watermore Estates hired their lifeguards over. Strong swimming was an advantage and half the guests who usually spent their days by the pool or on the beach weren't swimmers anyway.

Well, all the ladies except for her since they grew up in the same neighborhood. They’d been friends since they were children and shared so much. There was baseball and basketball games, block parties, parades, school days, sick days and so much more they’d been through together.

“Great just what I need today,” she said pushing red hair off her face.

“Worried that you’re hair will frizz?” Adrian teases nudging her shoulder.

She fixes him with her acute green eyes.

“Ray is working today,” he informs her.

Her green eyes light up but she tries to hide it. “Great at least someone else I get along with is suffering too!” she replies.

“Yeah and this summer better be the summer you make your move,” he tells her.

“What move?” she acts oblivious.

“On Ray, you've been crushing on him since you started working here,” Adrian points out. “ You've got it bad.”

“And four years later I’m still stuck working here,” she sighs. “Have you seen the way the ladies around here fawn all over him? And they have the advantage of barely covered perky breasts practically being thrust into his face.”

“You have an advantage. You’re his coworker and you’re best friend is one of his good friends. You need to come to the work party on Friday night, stop hiding behind the beach bar.” Adrian chides.

“It’s what I do best. Pouring tall glasses of lemonade and ice tea, mixing up cocktails, fetching people ice water; that’s my thing not partying,” she says.

“You’re 25 years old. I’m sure you’re aspirations are not to be working at the beach bar forever,” he retorts.

“You’re 23 and you’re working as eye candy for a beach resort. You can’t exactly do your job forever. I do have aspirations. I want to be manager of the Food and Beverage Department someday, but I know that is not gonna happen now.”

“You need to have confidence in yourself and demonstrate some kind of drive. Ray is moving on up. I probably shouldn’t tell you this but after this summer he’s getting a job in the marketing department,” Adrian says.

“And he deserves it. He’s been here longer than the both of us and he’s such a smart guy with a lot of great ideas. But let’s not talk about me or Ray,” Jade says. “Let’s talk about you and your dreams. I know you only took this job because of the pay rate. You don’t even like the beach half as much as you pretend to.”

“You worked on a fishing boat in high school with me you know how much it sucks smelling like the deep sea every day. I used to have to hose off outside before I was allowed to go into my house. My dream is to…..” Adrian starts before he is interrupted.

“Adriiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaaaan,” a female voice whistles.

Jade’s energy goes right back to negative and her expression changes.

Dark seductive eyes, tanned skin bared, boobs barely contained in a red bikini with a g string bottom exposing her even more, and dark hair up in a high ponytail high heels on her feet; Alyssa Salinas was here.

“Bartender, fix me a sex on the beach. I’m in the mood for some today,” Alyssa says winking at Adrian before giving Jade a scowling look.

Jade rolls her eyes before heading behind the bar to start on the cocktail.

Slutty rich bitches getting drunk before noon, this day was shaping up to be a lot of fun. All Jade needed was the boss standing over her shoulder and her day would be fulfilled even though it just started.

“Alyssa, you look great have you been working out?” Adrian asks.

“I do this great class called Heels. Maybe I can show you some moves from it sometime,” she playfully touches his arm.

“He’s not the fitness class type,” Jade chimes in.

“A few sessions with me should change that,” Alyssa purred before smirking in Jade’s direction.

“I’ll definitely consider it,” Adrian flirts back.

I never got to read this until now. Thanks for letting me know, I'm sorry for the delay.

I like the way you keep pushing the class divide - it adds so many layers to your story, without feeling forced. I also thought the dialogue was very natural.

You used "you're" instead of "your" a few times, but that's not a big deal.
